Walmart Brasil will close down its e-commerce operation in Latin America's biggest retail market to focus on brick and mortar locations, converting underperforming hypermarkets into wholesale stores. Wholesale has become increasingly popular in Brazil as the country slowly exits from a harsh recession. "The company is working in a new omnichannel strategy which will be later announced", Walmart Brasil said in a statement on Friday, without giving details.
China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd on Tuesday launched two high-end smartphone handsets in Brazil, making its second attempt to penetrate the world's fourth-largest smartphone market, broadening its footprint in Latin America. "We are in a very different market share position than we were five years ago and we're seeing tremendous brand momentum," Ketrina Dunagan, Huawei's vice president of marketing for the Americas, said in an interview on the sidelines of the launch event in Sao Paulo. Local retailers Magazine Luiza, Via Varejo , B2W, Fast Shop and wireless carrier Telefonica Brasil will be among those selling the phones, according to Dunagan.
The rating assigned to the senior notes reflects this risk, since it is capped by the obligor's rating. The senior shares will have a maturity of 60 months and the principal payment is due by the final maturity of the shares.
Moody's America Latina has assigned provisional ratings of (P) Ba1 (sf) (Global Scale, Local Currency) and (P) Aaa.br (sf) (Brazilian National Scale) to the senior shares to be issued by Fênix Fundo de Investimento em Direitos Creditórios do Varejo II (Fênix FIDC do Varejo II), a revolving securitization backed by a pool of trade receivables originated by Lojas Americanas S.A. (LASA) and B2W Companhia Digital (B2W). Fênix FIDC do Varejo II is a close-ended FIDC with a final maturity date that is 20 years from the closing date.
Amazon.com Inc is struggling to ramp up its operations in Brazil, a promising market that so far has proven difficult for the world's largest online retailer to crack, according to nearly twenty people with knowledge of the situation. Challenges include the nation's tangled tax system, complicated logistics and testy relations with some prominent vendors, who say the Seattle behemoth has shown little flexibility in negotiating even though it is still a minor e-commerce player in Brazil. Several well-known firms here, including Brazilian fashion label AMARO and footwear and accessory retailer Arezzo Industria e Comercio SA, have declined Amazon's offers to sell their goods on its platforms, according to seven of the people.
