The China Fund, Inc. (NYSE: CHN) today announced its financial results for its first fiscal quarter ended January 31, 2021. The Fund is a closed-end management investment company with the objective of seeking long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in equity securities (i) of companies for which the principal securities trading market is in the People's Republic of China ("China"), or (ii) of companies for which the principal securities trading market is outside of China, or constituting direct equity investments in companies organized outside of China, that in both cases derive at least 50% of their revenues from goods and services sold or produced, or have at least 50% of their assets, in China. Whilst the Fund is permitted to invest in direct equity investments of companies organized in China, it presently holds no such investments.
The China Fund, Inc. (NYSE: CHN) (the "Fund") announced today that the Fund's annual stockholder meeting (the "Meeting") will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 via a virtual forum at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Stockholders of record as of February 1, 2021 will be entitled to notice of, and to attend and vote at, the Meeting. Matthews Asia, International Capital Management, LLC, the investment manager, will be in attendance at the meeting and will provide an update on the China market.
The Board of Directors (the "Board") of The China Fund, Inc. (the "Fund") confirms the capital gain and net investment income distributions in the aggregate amount of $2.3123 per share for the 2020 year-end distributions. The capital gain portion of the distributions is comprised of long-term capital gains of $0.7033 per share and short-term capital gains of $1.4588. The net investment income portion of the distributions is $0.1502 per share. As previously announced, the distribution will be payable on January 8, 2021 to stockholders of record on December 29, 2020, with an ex-dividend date of December 28, 2020.
