Has the company made any progress on their lithium ambitions? I haven't heard anything lately.

An ongoing and unmitigated disaster. Will the bleeding ever stop? Will the Board of Directors shake off their lethargy and address the lack of productivity in a company with tremendous natural assets?
S
Oh CMP!!! Why do you continually disappoint me?

Compass Minerals reached a 52 Week low at 46.12

Analysis by Daniel Jones, manager of Avaring Capital Advisors, LLC, on Seeking Alpha;
"The big opportunity for the company...appears to be in the production and sale of lithium.... Its ultimate goal is to sell between 20 and 25 kilotons of the product per year starting in 2025....this could add between $500 million and $625 million in additional revenue for the firm."
Is this analysis valid? if so, that could increase annual revs ($836M-2021) by 60% ON THE LOW END OF PROJECTIONS!!??

This morning's 'lithium find' news is massive... It's not only an entirely new revenue driver for Compass, but will likely result in a re-rating of the company as well. I'm a shareholder, but admittedly knew nothing of the lithium potential. Not complaining and doesn't hurt to be a little luck every now and then.

Dog of a company, poorly managed. I've held for years- since 2005, cost basis $25, but not such a great return even with divi after 15+ years. Trying being patient, Morningstar has praised them continuously and had an 85.00 Fair Value rating as of yesterday. Wonder what they'll say today. I'm looking to exit this one position

One thing to consider... Compass Minerals is a great play for an inflationary environment. With the money printing machines working overtime, higher inflation is all but a certainty at some point. Happy collecting the 4.5% dividend in the meantime.

This is hilarious computer driven market inefficiency at its finest!
The company is aggressively investing back into its new lithium reserves, with a better value creation than paying dividends. Bravo

Am I the only one that sees this as a massive buying opportunity?

I've held CMP for a few years now and while I've underperformed the market with this position, I'm still in the green at least. There is still a lot to like with CMP and this could be a great play on commodity inflation. I also see this a prime acquisition target for any number of the bigger players. Time will tell, holding for now and plan to do so for many years given the opportunity. Good luck CMP longs...

As a shareholder of CMP with a cost basis significantly higher than today's $36, I believe CMP needs to cut their dividend by no less than 50% ASAP. I know this won't be popular with the dividend folks, but keeping their balance sheet under control needs to be the priority right now. If they do, I'll likely add to my position as I'm guessing the market won't like the news driving share price even lower.
S
Huge dividend cut won't be taken well by the majority of shareholders... $2.88 down to $0.60 annually. Wow!! There better be growth behind this new strategy, big growth!
S
CMP has quietly been trending upwards for the past month now. Let's hope we can bust thru that $70 level and stay there this time.

Divestitures of South America business will improve balance sheet substantially. Compass should have never entered that market via acquisition 5 years ago. The company has struggled since. Regardless, that's over with now and Compass can be laser focused on its core Salt business along with accompanying North American Potash (small but profitable). Might not seem like it today, but in a year or two, we'll look back at CMP in understand CMP in the low-mid $60's was a bargain. Good luck CMP longs!

Got my broker statement. It appears that they classified CMPs distribution as 100 return of capital which means basis adjustment and not taxable. Anyone else agree?

In these comments I hear no mention of the Co.s 45% ownership of Fortress. This could be a significant upside for the Company. Fortress holds patents and has been cleared by the govt as a supplier for fire retardant for Forest fires. Their product is also more environmentally friendly than the competition. Until recently this was sole sourced to one company. Should fortress gain market share in the future this will be significant.

For perspective, CMP traded at $54 as far back as 2008. 13 years and back to square one on share price! Dividends were nice, but everyone wants some capital appreciation as well. Lesson? Buy & hold works, but only for the best companies.

Anyone know who the competitors are that were mentioned in latest conference call as merger/acquisition?

What’s up with the stock I figured it would be up with all these municipalities and states having to restock their salt supplies
