Am I the only one that sees this as a massive buying opportunity?

I've held CMP for a few years now and while I've underperformed the market with this position, I'm still in the green at least. There is still a lot to like with CMP and this could be a great play on commodity inflation. I also see this a prime acquisition target for any number of the bigger players. Time will tell, holding for now and plan to do so for many years given the opportunity. Good luck CMP longs...

As a shareholder of CMP with a cost basis significantly higher than today's $36, I believe CMP needs to cut their dividend by no less than 50% ASAP. I know this won't be popular with the dividend folks, but keeping their balance sheet under control needs to be the priority right now. If they do, I'll likely add to my position as I'm guessing the market won't like the news driving share price even lower.

Got my broker statement. It appears that they classified CMPs distribution as 100 return of capital which means basis adjustment and not taxable. Anyone else agree?

If CMP hits the high end of the range of their earnings forecast of $2.20-$2.50/share, then their PE would be 20.3, at today's price of $50.96. That seems to high for this company...their growth rates are going to be that high.

Based on Morningstar's estimate of 2019 earnings of $3.69/share, that would be a more reasonable PE of 13.8. However, the unexpected termination of the CEO seems like a harbinger of some other bad news (significant issues in the salt mine and/or dividend cut comes to mind). CMP seems fairly priced here, but not a super-bargain. I have a sense that once the euphoria of the "truce" in the trade wars subsides, then the reality of China's economic slowdown, along with rising long-term interest rates in the US (which are market-driven, and therefore beyond the control of the FED), we will get another chance to pick up $45 CMP.

Load up on this stock. It is still a buy. We have had above average snow this winter and have some big storms on the way. Snow and ice everywhere. CMP salt will be a hot commodity.

CMP might not be sexy like some of the social media or tech stocks, but the products it produces are essential for our every day living in North America. Salts primarily used for de-icing and plant nutrients vital to the crops that feed us. The assets they hold cannot be replicated, so look at the as a lifetime holding and enjoy the run.

Heck, they even own a sustainable deep storage facility in the U.K., which I wasn't even aware of until recently.

Typical CMP, stock is down in the summer months, up in the winter months when the cold and snow hits the east/central states.

    20% turnaround plus dividend. GLTA

2018 guidance of $2.75 - $3.25 is not very encouraging. Company needs a substantial contribution from 'ol man winter in order to move the needle on salt sales. Stock price movement is flat to down unless some unknown factor appears to generate some excitement.

Understandable that the dividend was unchanged. broke a streak of nice steady increases since 2004

The assets Compass holds are one of a kind... Salt reserves alone are expected to last at least a few decades. While I'm fine holding and waiting for things to turn around, I fully expect an acquisition offer to come in which would take this up above $70, possibly $80 in fairly short order. Good luck CMP longs!
