Canadian Pacfic (NYSE: CP) hauled an all-time monthly record of grain and grain products volumes in October, the railway said on November 12. The railway attributed its the use of new high-capacity hopper cars and its 8,500-foot High Efficiency Product (HEP) train model as the catalyst to help CP reach record volumes. CP says the HEP train model, which is being used in tandem with customer investments at the terminals, has increased network capacity.

Western Canadian grain movements totaled 2.8 million metric tonnes (mt) of grain and processed grain products in October, beating a previous record of 2.7 million mt in April 2019. The record comes as cold and wet weather at the start of the 2019-2020 harvest season curtailed grain shipments for both Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific (NYSE: CP).
