CPKF: Higher Growth in Second Half to Offset Shortfall in the Second Quarter

This was worse than our estimate, which had called for a $0.4 million gain in net earnings to $2.3 million (off by $0.3 million) and a $0.10 advance in diluted EPS to $0.56 (off by $0.08). The major reasons for the second quarter’s $0.1 million increase in net earnings versus the prior-year quarter were a $2.1 million, or 18%, advance in net revenues due to higher net interest income (up $0.4 million) and larger noninterest income (up $1.7 million due to income derived from  merchant card and cash flow activities, as well as other miscellaneous income), partly offset by a $1.9 million, or 22%, rise in total noninterest expense, mostly from greater compensation costs and merchant card expense.

CPKF: Spectacular Quarter with Diluted EPS Surging 32% Year over Year

CPKF’s (CPKF) first quarter net earnings rose $0.6 million year over year, or 32%, to $2.6 million, while 2017’s first quarter diluted EPS increased by $0.15, or 32%, to $0.63 from $0.48 posted a year ago. This was much better than our estimate, which had called for a $0.1 million gain in net earnings to $2.0 million (off by $0.6 million) and a $0.02 advance in diluted EPS to $0.50 (off by $0.13). The major reasons for the first quarter’s $0.6 million increase in net earnings versus the prior-year quarter were a $1.7 million, or 16%, advance in net revenues due to higher net interest income (up $0.1 million) and larger noninterest income (up $1.6 million from merchant card income and other miscellaneous income), partly offset by a $0.7 million, or 9%, rise in total noninterest expense, mostly from greater merchant card expense.

Trump meets with U.S. community bankers, pledges to scale back regulations

President Donald Trump promised in a meeting with community bankers on Thursday to strip away some Dodd-Frank financial regulations and ensure they can continue giving small businesses access to capital. Trump, joined by National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, said community banks play a "vital role" in the U.S. economy. Community banks are the backbone of small business in America," Trump said at the beginning of the meeting.

CPKF: Strong Growth in Loans and Merchant Card Income Drive a 50% Gain in Fourth Quarter EPS Year Over Year

Chesapeake Financial Shares, Inc.’s (CPKF) fourth quarter net earnings rose $0.5 million year over year, or 51%, to $1.4 million, while 2016’s fourth quarter diluted EPS increased by $0.11, or 50%, to $0.33 from $0.22 posted a year ago. This was slightly better than our estimate, which had called for a $0.4 million gain in net earnings to $1.3 million (off by $0.1 million) and a $0.10 advance in diluted EPS to $0.32 (off by $0.01). The primary reason for the difference between reported results and our estimate was that compensation expense was $0.2 million better than we had expected, with this partly offset by net interest income that was $0.1 million worse than our projection.

7 Dividend Growth Stocks On Sale

My goal is to purchase quality companies that grow earnings and dividends at an attractive price. Most members of the dividend champions list exhibit characteristics of a quality company. After all, only a company with a strong business can afford to consistently grow earnings and dividends every single year for a quarter of a century. To […]
