UPDATE 1-Brazil's Carrefour sees third-quarter profit dip on slower sales

Carrefour Brasil reported a nearly 60% year-on-year decline in net profit for the third quarter, hit mainly by lower sales in its retail unit, the company said on Tuesday. The Brazilian arm of French retailer Carrefour said that its profit reached 132 million reais ($26.19 million) in the three-month period. Net sales from the group fell 3.3% to 25.51 billion reais, as its retail operations saw a 14.2% decline in sales due to a conversion of 32 retail stores into wholesale.

Carrefour Q3 sales growth slows as inflation falls

PARIS (Reuters) -Carrefour, Europe's largest food retailer, on Wednesday reported weaker third-quarter sales growth than expected as food price inflation declined and consumers kept cutting back on spending. Chief Executive Alexandre Bompard had warned in August that French consumers were massively cutting their spending on essential goods, and blamed consumer goods firms for not bringing prices down fast enough. Third-quarter sales came in at 23.63 billion euros ($25 billion), marking like-for-like growth of 9%, a slowdown from 10.3% growth in the second quarter, but Carrefour stuck to its 2023 targets.
