It’s been a while since I sold my EMKR shares; however, out of curiosity, I just listened to the call. My sense is that the cable TV business is falling apart. The EMKR CEO made some statements that indicate that it could bounce back. My own opinion, based on what I see happening to cable providers such as Comcast and Charter, is that it’s possible that cable may be on a permanent decline. I think that’s the reason EMKR decided to pay $50M to acquire another business. In my opinion, however, they probably overpaid for the new business.

CMCSA and CHTR both announced a decrease in broadband subscribers, consistent with the very weak EMKR guidance from the last call. EMKR longs should hope that there is strength in the other parts of the business.

If there were any doubt that this management team and board need to be removed en masse, this should leave no doubt. What they manufacture best is failure to shareholders and excuses, and they've been doing this for a long time...

Can we have an honest discussion here without emotions. I am very long and bullish on this company but trimmed after last report for the following main reason. In their last 3 earnings reports mgt explicitly stated in the pr that their order book for telecom is being pushed out further and further based on demand. They did not mention that this time. When asked on this in the CC they said they have differing views that the tail will go through mid next year and some longer. They also said before they would buck the trend in seasonality and this time they said to expect some seasonality in q1. Let’s admit the telecom profits and margin are carrying this company today’s and the commentary on outlook wasn’t as bullish as last few CCs (but also not bearish)

Then the discussion turned to meaningful revenue in A&D and it still looks like that won’t happen until 2023. So if telecom dips 2nd half next year and A&D doesn’t pick up the slack we will have revenue decline yoy.

A lot to be excited about here long term. No doubt cheap at current levels but this is the modeling I did that caused me to sell half after last er. I am also a buyer down here.

As for lidar that is a great buzz word but when will that translate to revenue?

One final worry hitting the market altogether is delta. The fear of business slowing as a result is hitting all stocks. Specific commentary I heard on the call that could affect this is emcore is dependent on the number of chassis going up to be able to sell through the order book of their products. If delta causes issues the amount of revenue could be affected.

It seems that EMKR’s biggest shareholder, Cannel Capital LLC, has decided to resort to activism. I came across a letter from Cannel Capital (CC) to the EMKR chairperson complaining about the recent EMKR performance and concluding:
“CC observes that the market values EMKR less - likely perhaps far less - than its intrinsic value.
It is the opinion of CC that most, if not all, of the blame for this dramatic undervaluation rests upon the shoulders of EMKR's officers and directors, many of whom have arguably violated their duty of service to shareholders.
CC requests that EMKR replace two members of the company's Board post-haste.”
