Description

Empire Company Limited, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the food retail and related real estate business in Canada. It operates through two segments, Food Retailing, and Investments and Other Operations. It owns, affiliates, and franchises approximately 1,500 retail stores under various retail banners, including Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo., Thrifty Foods, and Lawton’s Drug Stores; and approximately 350 retail fuel locations. The company also owns interest in Crombie REIT, an open-ended Canadian real estate investment trust, which has a portfolio of 281 income producing properties covering an area of approximately 19.1 million square feet; and various equity accounted interests in real estate partnerships that develop residential real estate properties in Ontario, Western Canada, and the United States. Empire Company Limited was founded in 1907 and is headquartered in Stellarton, Canada.
