I have finished a comprehensive analysis of all available Pure Earnings plays for Monday PM, and none of them met my standards for going Long. But three of them met my standards for Selling Short. Of the three, EPC is my pick and sometime tomorrow I will be selling my shares of VSAT and then immediately putting 95+% of my available hard capital, into a Short Sell of EPC, to hold through earnings release on Monday.

Here are the final three options I came up with, along with brief analysis of each:

1: EPC Short Sell: Likely to miss on EPS, Revenue, or both. Earnings History very poor, missed consensus estimates on Revenue 7 of the last 10 ER's, poor Guidance History. Poor stock price reactions to ER's. Company not profitable last fiscal year. Stock hit an 11 year low just a few days ago, but then bounced up 8+%. Recent, negative news as FTC attempts to block buy-out attempt of other company by EPC. Lots of uncertainty going forward. Analysts are bearish. Some insider buying in 2019. Overall financials are average.

2: MCY Short Sell: Stock is likely to miss consensus estimates on EPS, Revenue, or both. Poor Earnings History, have missed either EPS, Revenue, or both, 5 of the last 8 ER's. Many of these misses have been large. Stock has a history of reacting poorly to its ER's. Stock is close to a 52 week low. Company has already acknowledged significant losses have been incurred due to California wildfires. Analysts are bearish. Valuation is fair-to-low, a negative for shorting. Some recent Insider Buying, but very small share amounts. Overall financials are fair/good.

3: L Short Sell: Likely to miss on EPS, Revenue, or both. Earnings History is fair. Stock price reactions to ER's is fair. Stock is solidly over-valued, the only 1 of these 3 to so qualify. Financials overall are fair/poor. Insiders are recently selling. Analysts are mildly bearish, suggesting very limited upside potential on this ER. Minor exposure to Coronavirus issue, because small part of company revenue comes from operating hotels.

So, here we have 3 Sell Short plays that all look attractive to me, but none of them are perfect, each has several flaws. I would suggest that L is probably the safest play, in terms of limited upside risk if the ER turns out to be good. I would also say MCY is the most likely to miss consensus estimates. And EPC might be the most vulnerable to a 10+% downside plunge, offering the best profit potential.

It is a very difficult choice to make, but I am going to go with EPC as my Short Sell play here. I think the risk/reward ratio is slightly better over the other two.

Best of Luck to All! :-)

Covered my EPC Short Sell at $37.86 for a, I'm breaking out the double G's on this one...Gigantic and Ginormous loss of just over $23k. We might hope that is a typo, but no, negative twenty-three thousand bucks. That's how the Pure Earnings game works: in order to gain the opportunity to win big, you must accept the risk of losing big, and both opportunity and risk are VERY real. Believe it or not, I am still slightly Green for year 2020, and every play I make offers an opportunity to gain back all these bucks, be it in a single play, or 2-5 plays. So, I keep on going.

Immediately went Long OMF, just as I had planned, only a few less shares due to reduced capital. Long 1700 shares OMF at $44.10, and so far this one is looking good to the upside on a very positive and nice-looking ER.

    Best Wishes to All! :-)

Sold Short 3200 shares of EPC at $30.69, on Friday This is a Pure Earnings play. EPC reports earnings before market open on Monday, and I am looking for a poor ER, immediately followed by a drop in the stock price to the $28 level. Here are some of the factors that led me to decide an EPC Short Sell offered the best opportunity for a significant profit, with the best risk/reward ratio, for the Monday Pre-market Earnings time period:

EPC: Likely to miss on EPS, Revenue, or both.

I have finished analyzing all available Pure Earnings plays for Monday AH/Tuesday PM, and here are my top 3 selections:

1: OMF Long: Excellent earnings history, excellent stock price reactions to ER's, current stock price indicated absolute under-valuation based upon a comprehensive financial analysis. Analysts are generally bullish, offering very good upside potential on PT's. Overall financial situation of company is excellent. Play offers excellent upside potential of 4-7% with very limited downside risk.

2: JCOM Long: Very likely to beat on both EPS and Revenue consensus estimates. Very good earnings history. Outstanding guidance history, zero guides down over the course of their last 22 earnings releases, a rare feat. Stock price reacts well to ER's, but small moves. valuation is fair. Analysts bullish, offering very good upside potential on PT's. Recent, positive analyst comments. Very good financials. Excellent risk/reward ratio, but I choose OMG primarily due to better upside potential.

3: BLKB Short Sell: Likely to miss on either EPS or Revenue or both. Fair earnings history. Poor/fair guidance history. Poor stock price reactions to ER's. Stock is absolutely and seriously over-valued based upon a comprehensive financial analysis. Analysts are mixed, but generally bearish, offering cautious/negative comments and suggesting competition in the space is likely to erode growth and revenue for BLKB. Insiders are selling, but share quantities are small. Financials are fair. Very good risk/reward ratio for shorting, because even if the ER surprises to the upside, over-valuation should limit any upside pop.

My personal play will be OMF, unless something dramatically changes before Monday afternoon.

Please nore that ALL Pure Earnings plays are extremely dangerous and you could lose 10-20+% of your capital on any play. Always do your own Due Diligence and never play with any $ that you are not consciously ready and willing to lose.

Would welcome thoughts, comments, and ideas on any of these plays, or other options for this date. I also considered seriously CHGG and TGNA, but they came up a little weaker than the above 3.

    Best Wishes! :-)

nivea just bought coppertone. Nivea is a suncare powerhouse outside usa , Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic will not survive outside USA as CT is integrated into Nivea supply chain. Can't compete economically. CT was brand leader in USA for years and known worldwide. downward sales dollar trends will accelerate. Suncare was one of 3 pillars for EPC future, will they survive a stronger effort by Nivea on top of private label growth ? doubtful. More bad news
