12:21 PM EDT, 05/09/2022 (MT Newswires) -- RBC Capital Markets on Monday kept its outperform rating on the shares of Enerplus (ERF.TO) in place while raising its price target to US$18.00 from US$17.00 after the oil and gas producer last week reported first-quarter results and raised its dividend.

"Enerplus Corporation delivered solid first-quarter results amid broadly in-line production of 92,200 boe/d and free cash flow generation of $154 million," the investment bank noted. " ... The company raised its common share dividend by 30% to an annualized rate of $0.172 per share (1% yield) and enhanced its 2022 return of capital program by committing to return the greater of $350 million (minimum) or 50% of free cash flow through dividends and share repurchases. Subsequent to quarter end and up to and including May 4, Enerplus repurchased an additional $18.9 million (1.5 million shares at $12.61 per share) of its common shares. Enerplus plans to repurchase the remaining 8.0 million share authorization under its 10% NCIB by the end of July and renew its issuer bid in August. All said, Enerplus anticipates returning about $40 million to shareholders in 2022 via dividends, with the remaining $310 million or greater returned to shareholders via buybacks."

When will they do their famous buyback, so we don't see so much beating in days like this one?

Oil is at the moment over $115 per barrel. Most oil E&P companies are at or near their highs. While I continue to believe that management is an excellent operator; the recent acquisitions they made were textbook, their capital markets decision making will keep the share price range bound. Until they increase the dividend (I know the arguments for share repurchase) the stock simply will not appreciate to the level all investors want to see.

Wow, can ERF not get over $17 CAD sp like earlier this year. It hit a high of $18.84 sp. Not sure what holds this golden mid cap back- share volume is poor. Ian I just hope your buying lot's of shares at this unvalued position. I do agree a higher dividend in the short term would be beneficial to shareholders, however, Ian is getting the CF first and then trying to figure out where he will get his best bang for the buck; strengthening the balance sheet, more buy backs, increasing the dividend. WTI at a high of $115 a barrel, he is going to have some serious cash flow. Patience I guess.

ERF should be up 15% like Cardinal today. The future CF growth and dividends at $105-$106 WTI will be stellar.

Further...Goldman is recommending investors move to high dividend paying/high yield stocks. Increasing dividend by 30% on a very low dividend is nothing. Management needs to generate a higher yield for investors.

Hedging losses are the only thing holding us back. Management needs to get out of their conservative comfort zone and grow a set. Hedging , given the global supply shortage is ridiculous. Read the tea leaves management, increase CF by reducing hedges and return the cash to me with a dividend increase. Stop covering your rear ends with costly hedges.

Tomorrow is the big day and this is when Enerplus will get on the board (per say) and investors will take increasing notice. ERF has been "under the radar", and with calculated CF using WTI of $95 or less (note we have been over $100 most of the quarter), we are going to see some significant cash flows available for debt reduction, share buybacks to continue and special one time dividends if there is extra. ERF is in an enviable position with the smart acquisition last year, setting ERF up for major growth in these next two years. I can see a doubling of sp still in 2023. Don't be afraid to cheerlead Dundas, as you did in your last formal presentation, which was good to see.

Returning 50% of cashflow minimum. Debt is 0.7x , very low debt. May be debt-free next quarter. That's great. If stock falls, management has funds to buy it immediately. Share repurchase plan in progress till summer. Everything great.

If you go their site and scroll down the hedges cost them $207 million in the quarter. Massive hit to earnings. Ouch.
