Ericsson's CEO tells staff report of his imminent exit is incorrect

Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson's CEO Borje Ekholm told employees in an internal note this week that a recent media report of his imminent replacement was incorrect, a company spokesman said. Business daily Dagens Industri said last week, citing anonymous sources, that Ekholm was set to leave after less than three years on the job and would be replaced by defense material group Saab CEO Hakan Buskhe. Ericsson's shares fell over 3% on Aug. 28, the day the report was published.

Ericsson says to invest in 5G manufacturing in Poland

Telecom gear maker Ericsson will increase production and invest further in its Tczew plant in Poland in preparation for the ramp up of next generation 5G mobile network across Europe, it said in a statement. The firm's head of Europe and Latin America, Arun Bansal, is scheduled to meet Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Sweden on Thursday, an Ericsson spokeswoman added. Ericsson, which competes with Finland's Nokia and China's Huawei to build mobile data infrastructure worldwide, said the site would be "in full service for the European market" by the first quarter of 2020.

Ericsson CEO Ekholm set to leave, Saab's Buskhe could replace him - paper

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson's CEO Borje Ekholm could be about to announce his exit after less than three years in the job with outgoing Saab CEO Hakan Buskhe planned as his replacement, business daily Dagens Industri reported on Wednesday citing anonymous sources. Ekholm - a veteran board member and former CEO of Investor AB - became CEO in January 2017 after the Swedish company ousted its previous top executive, Hans Vestberg, due to weakening profitability and pressure from major shareholders. "The idea is that Hakan Buskhe will take over as CEO of Ericsson.

UPDATE 2-Britain delays decision on Huawei's role in 5G networks

Britain on Monday postponed a decision on whether Huawei could participate in building next-generation 5G mobile networks until it had a clearer picture of the impact of U.S. measures taken against the Chinese company. "These measures could have a potential impact on the future availability and reliability of Huawei's products, together with other market impacts, and so are relevant considerations in determining Huawei's involvement in the network," Digital Minister Jeremy Wright told parliament.

Britain to cut Huawei decision from telecoms review -sources

Britain plans to publish the results of a long-awaited telecoms supply chain review next week without a decision on the use of equipment made by China's Huawei in future 5G networks, people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Lawmakers said on Friday the government needed to make a decision on Huawei Technologies as "a matter of urgency" and continued delays were damaging international relations. Britain's National Security Council, chaired by outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May, met to discuss the issue in April and a decision was made to block Huawei from all critical parts of the 5G network over security concerns, but still allow it restricted access to less sensitive parts.

UPDATE 1-Norway's Telenor CEO sees decision on 5G supplier in Q4

Telenor expects to decide on its supplier of 5G technology in the fourth quarter of 2019, its CEO told Reuters, despite having as yet no clarification from Norwegian authorities as to whether Huawei can be one of them. The Nordic country's government has for months been assessing measures to reduce potential vulnerabilities in its telecoms industry and, like other U.S. allies, is under pressure from Washington not to allow the Chinese company as a supplier.

Sweden's Ericsson sees Brazil switching on 5G network by early 2021

Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson expects Brazil to switch on its fifth-generation (5G) network by early 2021, several months after a spectrum auction set for March next year, a top executive told Reuters. The company is working closely with local operators and Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel to test the technology ahead of the long-awaited auction, said Eduardo Ricotta, president of Ericsson Latam South, in a Thursday interview. "Cleaning up the bandwidth is necessary because some of the frequencies to be allocated to 5G might have interferences with satellites," Ricotta said.

Exclusive: In push to replace Huawei, rural U.S. carriers are talking with Nokia and Ericsson

HELSINKI/NEW YORK (Reuters) - About a dozen rural U.S. telecom carriers that depend on Huawei for network gear are in discussions with its biggest rivals, Ericsson and Nokia, to replace their Chinese equipment, sources familiar with the matter said. The carriers, which include Pine Belt in Alabama, and Union Wireless in Wyoming, are seeking discounted pricing and looking forward to government assistance but have yet to reach agreements, these sources said. Nokia and Ericsson declined to comment.
