Equitrans Midstream Corp.'s top executives voiced confidence Tuesday in a continued strong relationship with EQT Corp., its former corporate parent and still its largest customer, as the Pittsburgh-based natural gas driller changes course under the leadership of new CEO Toby Rice. Equitrans and EQT executives have been communicating well, both in the transition toward a more focused and highly planned drilling plan, as well as negotiations under a potential new contract between the two companies to move EQT's natural gas from the well pad. "We see opportunity for significant long-term value in the rigorous planning process and combo development strategy that EQT's management intends to implement," Equitrans CEO Thomas Karam told analysts during Equitrans' second-quarter conference call Tuesday.
EQT Corp. executives said it was committed to the Mountain Valley Pipeline and also said a divestiture of its stake in Equitrans Midstream Corp. was possible but not immediate. EQT retained a stake in Equitrans, which is worth about $900 million as of Thursday. The previous EQT management hasn't provided a time line for selling off the stake, although the divestiture would provide cash for EQT that would pay down debt.

Equitrans Midstream Corp. (NYSE: ETRN) held its annual meeting Tuesday morning in downtown Pittsburgh, and all four matters proposed by the board of directors passed with a majority of votes. The first proposition voted for approval was the election of seven directors nominated by the board to serve for new terms. On mechanics, Charletta said the team did experience some “estimation misses” and cut deeper through rock when it should have bent the pipe. On regulations, Charletta said the company learned it needed to know the regulatory process better than the state level agencies they work with.
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also...

EQT Corp. has begun to engage in some preliminary scouting for a new headquarters beyond EQT Plaza, where it is currently located, according to sources familiar with the search. As the natural gas drilling company currently works to sublease a portion of its current headquarters, sources familiar with the search indicate EQT has explored a mix of options in and around downtown, including at the redevelopment of the former Civic Arena site in the Lower Hill District. The company, which has undergone significant change in the past two years, declined to comment beyond a short statement. EQT (NYSE: EQT) is bound to be heavily courted by developers all over the city, which is in a busy phase for new office development.
