I was deciding between ENPH an FSLR. I know their core product is different but they're both in the solar industry and I wanted a piece of the pie before the rocket takes off - FSLR feels like the safer play for me. P/E is attractive, and addressable segment appears to be larger (altho revenue growth is not as high as ENPH).
Got a feeling First Solar will partner with the US Dept of Energy for capacity + technology expansion. Look no further than NREL taking up thin film CdTe and recent Bloomberg interview with the CEO stating “We are in daily discussions with the White House..”
First Solar will build many more factories as their panels are sold before they are produced...11 gigawatts is a drop in the bucket of 400+ gigawatts installed worldwide. First Solar warranties their panels to lose only 8% of their original energy when new. This is head and shoulders above the Chinese poly-silicon bs.
Nice earnings,Upgrades,Strong push in PreMarket and now this is falling out of the sky.Welcome to Wall Street

You know what they say about blood in the streets ;) Only the strong hands survive! Not selling and I bought some more ;)
Different earnings and expectations being posted here. Note the earnings without the sale of the division, and check real data, not this discussion.
The company's quarterly results are good .why was not reflected in the stock?!!!!
I'm not saying to buy, but if you follow BP and others, first solar is set to go
time to buy buy buy...no brainer.
I added 8000 more ... we will be $100 soon...
I heard about FSLR the other day on (
). It’s looking like an interesting play.
buy the dip!
They did sell a business unit, but it looks like that may have also impacted their typical tax expense. So, it seems they still would have beat even accounting for sale. However, there guidance shrunk a bit on the operating side, and their accounts receivable doubled which could indicate issues getting paid...not sure yet. Overall, seems like an aggressive adjustment downward for a largely positive earnings call.
Lots of volume today, this a gift or a trap? Either way I’m in
The shorts win today without question. Perhaps next week will be more positive for the longs.
The Fool got to be kidding??
Motley Fool - But it was guidance that was in focus today. Management slightly increased the top end of revenue guidance for 2021 by $25 million to a range of $2.85 billion to $3.025 billion. But the bottom end of the gross margin range was reduced by $15 million to a range of $695 million to $775 million. The implication is that revenue could be higher than previously expected but margins could be lower. When a company expects higher revenue, it usually means that earnings will be higher as well, which is why investors are worried about falling margins. Companies have been dealing with raw material cost headwinds and First Solar is no different. That's what's affecting the bottom line and a big reason why shares are trading lower today.
