When you look at the top stock holdings, this sort of looks like a closet index fund, but with higher ER. Not pleased. Too much tech is what's killing it right now. Instead of playing it safe they started performance-chasing back when tech was skying. Their cap losses would be too large to sell now.

How can morningstar have this at a five star rating?

$60,000. Thats how much I would be down now. So much for holding through the crash. Good luck!

Share price is reduced to cover dividend payouts. Not unusual.

FBALX is a fine balanced fund that has performed very well in a bull market vs other balanced funds, however, it doesn't perform so well in down markets as other balanced funds like VBIAX.
Look at the 10 year Beta of 1.18 for FBALX vs 0.99 for VBIAX. FBALX is much riskier than VBIAX, that's why FBALX has returned 186% vs 151% for VBIAX over 10 years.
    Bullish

15% of it's top holdings are in tech stocks. No wonder it's getting hammered since January 2022.

$2.49 loss in a single day? That seems crazy. Ive done back several years and never has it dropped that much in 1 day. It is a balanced fund and the largest holdings are FAANG stocks - all of which had a moderate day. Is this a NAV calculation error?

For a balanced fund, FBALX has certainly not done well during this market downturn. Seems the fund had a more than moderate market position

Hello Port! Where did you get the figure $1.751 dividend? If you were correct that the fund went up $0.22 per share then should the dividend be $1.12? I simply added the reported loss per share of $0.90 to the $0.22 gain. Does this make sense to you?

This drop today, is it because of Capital Gains?

Anyone know why the big drop today?

When stock markets dropped in 2001, FBALX maintained its value quite well.

But when stock markets dropped in 2008, FBALX also suffered.

    Why?
