    Brazilian conglomerate Votorantim SA is looking for acquisition targets in infrastructure, energy and real estate to invest the proceeds of the sale of its stake in pulpmaker Fibria Celulose SA , senior executives said on Wednesday. Chief Executive Officer Joao Miranda told journalists the group is planning to invest in industries that will provide a more stable stream of dividends. "We are still considering which would be the best segments to invest within infrastructure", Miranda said.

    Rivals seek involvement in Fibria-Suzano antitrust review -reports

    Two major pulp and paper companies filed a petition last week to participate in the Brazilian antitrust evaluation of Suzano Papel e Celulose SA's planned $11 billion acquisition of Fibria Celulose SA , two newspapers reported on Tuesday. U.S.-based International Paper Co and Indonesia's Royal Golden Eagle International filed the petition, Valor Economico and Estado de S. Paulo reported. International Paper said its business could be affected by the deal, including its plant in the town of Tres Lagoas, where its operations are heavily integrated with Fibria's, Valor reported, citing International Paper's petition.

    Brazil investor questions Suzano-Fibria pulpmaker deal -report

    Brazilian investment firm Tempo Capital has filed a complaint with the country's securities regulator CVM over the acquisition of Fibria Celulose SA by Suzano Papel e Celulose SA, the online edition of newspaper Valor Economico said on Wednesday. In March, the controlling shareholders of Fibria accepted an $11 billion bid by Suzano, in a deal to create the world's biggest pulp producer. The Tempo complaint, filed on June 11, said the acquisition should have triggered a mandatory tender offer for minority shareholders, according to the paper, citing documents filed with the regulator that are not made public.

    Votorantim swings to profit on higher metal prices

    Votorantim SA, one of Brazil's biggest diversified industrial groups, on Friday reported net income of 150 million reais ($42 million) in the first quarter, compared with a loss of 546 million reais a year ago, due in part to higher metal prices. In a statement, Votorantim said profit was also boosted by sales growth in its aluminum and cement businesses, as well as higher net income from wood pulp producer Fibria SA and lender Banco Votorantim SA. Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization, a gauge of operational profit known as adjusted EBITDA, jumped 87 percent to 1.506 billion reais.
