TURIN, Italy—Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s new Chief Executive Mike Manley faces some unfinished business in Europe. Mr. Manley will have to address multiple challenges, including plant overcapacity and a bloated workforce in Europe, which accounts for 36% of FCA’s employees but one-tenth of its profits.
When Waymo picks up its first paying customer in a driverless taxi later this year, the car doing the honors will be made by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV. Not the sensors and software—the futuristic technology that allows a robot to drive a minivan will be made by Waymo. It’s an ironic twist that Fiat Chrysler, the world’s seventh-largest automaker, with a reputation for being frugal with research budgets, will provide the cars for one of the pioneering driverless businesses.

Currently, it appears that one of the worst calls I’ve made here at InvestorPlace was telling you to buy Ford (NYSE:F). If you feel badly about it, I feel worse, because I did indeed buy Ford stock. Ford made a profit of $1.06 billion on those sales, enough to pay the 15-cent-per-share dividend with room to spare.

If there's anything that proves Detroit's motor-oil-in-the-veins, gearhead bonafides, it's the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, which will bring an anticipated 1.5 million or so people from near and far, plus tens of thousands of classic and custom and just plain weird cars, to a 16-mile portion of Woodward Avenue on Saturday for the 24th year. Loved by gearheads, collectors and the merely curious, who see it as the Motor City's version of Mardi Gras, and loathed by others, who deride it as the world's largest traffic jam, the Dream Cruise is nothing if not an explosion for the senses. The Cruise will officially go from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., though of course cruisers have been out already for weeks.

It hasn’t been easy for General Motors (NYSE:GM), Fiat Chrysler (NYSE:FCAU) Daimler (OTCMKTS:DDAIF) or even Ferrari (NYSE:RACE). F stock is down a whopping 24% so far this year and more than 20% since early June. Now yielding 6.4%, many investors are wondering if Ford is a screaming buy.
In 1941, when America needed heroes, Jeep answered the call. At least, that's what I thought two weeks ago, during the opening stages of my 14,000-mile overland trek in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, as rain pursued me from the Oregon Inlet National Park Campground on North Carolina's Outer Banks to the western edge of the "First in Flight" state. Then the rain traveled the Trans-America Trail with me through Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

Honda has a lot to be proud of following the latest round of passenger small-overlap crash testing by the IIHS. The safety organization tested the 2018 Honda Odyssey, 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Toyota Sienna, and the Odyssey managed the best rating of "Good." The Pacifica followed behind with an "Acceptable" rating, and the Sienna brought up the rear with just a "Marginal." Both the Pacifica and Sienna lost points because the structure around the passengers collapsed to differing extents, leading to parts of the structure intruding into the passenger compartment.
