Whatever the case, here is a list of closed-end funds, or CEFs, that have suffered bear markets, with negative total returns of 20% or more over the 12 months to Oct. 31, according to Morningstar’s data. CEFs that specialize in energy and especially master limited partnerships (MLPs) would account for the lion’s share of this list.
