Flowers Foods Inc (NYSE:FLO) files its latest 10-K with SEC for the fiscal year ended on December 31, 2017.
Flowers Foods (FLO) is a leading name in the bakery space. The company is best known for brands like Dave’s Killer Bread, Wonder, Nature’s Own, and Mrs. Freshley’s. The company’s recently reported 4Q17 results benefitted from strong demand for Dave’s Killer Bread. More importantly, the company added that Dave’s Killer Bread along with Wonder and Nature’s Own helped to improve its dollar share for six successive quarters, according to research firm IRI.
Driven by strong demand for Dave’s Killer Bread, Flowers Foods (FLO) reported 4Q17 sales of $873.6, which easily beat the analysts’ estimate of $861 million. Sales benefited 110 basis points from favorable product and price mixes but were negatively impacted by 50 basis points due to divestiture. Flowers Foods’ DSD segment reported a 1.1% increase in sales to $738.6 million in fiscal 4Q17.
The company’s adjusted EPS (earnings per share) of $0.17 and sales of $873.6 million in fiscal 4Q17 easily topped the analysts’ estimate of $0.15 and $861 million, respectively. Despite a tough operational backdrop, the company stated that the demand upsurge in Dave’s Killer Bread boosted the company’s sales performance in fiscal 4Q17. On a YTD (year-to-date) basis, the stock price is up 5.5%.
