    Shares of Canadian lender Home Capital Group fell more than 7 percent in early trading, a day after the company posted an 85 percent drop in mortgage originations in the third-quarter from a year ago. The company said total mortgage originations in the quarter was C$385 million ($301 million), compared with C$2.54 billion a year earlier. Shares of the company fell as much as 7.7 percent to C$13.26.

    Home Capital Group Inc., the Canadian mortgage lender that almost prompted a crisis in the country’s housing market this year, is having trouble wooing back borrowers. Mortgage originations dropped 85 percent to C$385 million ($302 million) in the third quarter from a year earlier, the Toronto-based company said in a statement Tuesday. The lender expects its balance of non-securitized single-family home loans to be C$10 billion at the end of the year, down from C$10.4 billion at the end of the third quarter.

    Canada's banking regulator on Tuesday finalized tougher new rules on mortgage lending aimed at safeguarding lenders and borrowers, but warned the measures could push some borrowers into the arms of unregulated private lenders. The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) said rules on mortgage lending that require stress tests on uninsured mortgages and an end to practices designed to circumvent lending limits will take effect at the beginning of next year.

    Canadian mortgage lender Home Capital Group Inc said on Monday it would sell its payment processing and prepaid card business. The sale, which also includes Home Capital's payment services interactive gateway units, is expected to generate about C$20 million ($15.97 million) in annual savings, the lender said. Home Capital said it expects a reduction in fee and other income of about C$18 million due to the sale.

    Canadian mortgage lender Home Capital Group Inc said on Tuesday two senior executives would be leaving the company, in the latest reshuffle after new Chief Executive Yousry Bissada took charge in August to turn the business around. The company said Chief Operating Officer Chris Whyte and the executive vice president for residential lending, Pino Decina, will be leaving the company. Edward Karthaus will take over the job of residential lending sales, while the post of chief operating officer will be scrapped, Home Capital said in a statement.

    Home Capital said it is still facing high costs after investors withdrew more than 90 percent of funds from the mortgage lender's high-interest savings accounts. The withdrawals accelerated when the Ontario Securities Commission accused Home Capital of making misleading statements to investors about its mortgage underwriting business. The company reached a settlement with the commission in June and accepted responsibility for misleading investors.
