10 Consumer Stocks on the Clearance Rack

U.S. equities are trading meekly on Monday, inching lower with caution. The specter of an outright trade war with China looms large, with a tit-for-tat involving billions in import tariffs already underway. Moreover, central banks are turning increasingly hawkish with the Federal Reserve jacking interest rates higher again last week and promising two more hikes before the year is out. The European Central Bank is committed to ending its bond buying stimulus program before the end of the year.

These Sectors Could Take a Hit due to Rising Trade Tensions

The Trump administration sent shock waves across the global markets by announcing trade tariffs on steel and aluminum imports in early March this year. Aiming at Trump strongholds, Mexico hits back with trade tariffs

Mexico put tariffs on American products ranging from steel to pork and bourbon on Tuesday, retaliating against import duties on metals imposed by President Donald Trump and taking aim at Republican strongholds ahead of U.S. congressional elections in November. Mexico's response further raises trade tensions between the two countries and adds a new complication to efforts to renegotiate the trillion-dollar North American Free Trade Agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico. American pork producers, for whom Mexico is the largest export market, were dismayed by the move.

Mexico looks to Europe after slapping tariffs on U.S. pork

Mexico will import more pork products from Europe after imposing a 20 percent tariff on U.S. pork legs and shoulders in retaliation to steel tariffs, Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo said on Tuesday. About 90 percent of Mexico's $1.07 billion (£800 million) annual imports of pork legs and shoulders come from U.S. suppliers and the country expects to import more from elsewhere to avoid pushing prices higher for the cuts used to make hams and other processed meats.
