A criminal writ petition filed on Monday in India's Supreme Court, alleging that about 980 billion rupees ($14 billion) had been siphoned out of the company by senior officials using a web of shell companies.
Shares in Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd fell for a third straight session on Wednesday, dropping up to 9.8% even as the mortgage lender asked the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing of a petition that alleged financial misdeeds. A criminal writ petition filed on Monday in India's highest court alleged that about 980 billion rupees ($14 billion) had been siphoned out of the company by senior officials using a web of shell companies. "The real objective of the petitioner is not to get the application heard as it has no locus standi, merit or facts," Indiabulls said.
Shares in Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd plummeted as much as 8.8% on Tuesday even as the mortgage lender and its top management moved to quash allegations of financial misconduct and money laundering within the company. A criminal writ petition filed on Monday in India's Supreme Court alleged that about 980 billion rupees ($14 billion) had been siphoned out of the company by senior officials using a web of shell companies. The housing finance company on Monday dismissed the allegations as "bizarre", noting that total loans on its books stood at just 900 billion rupees.
Moody's Investors Service ("Moody's") has assigned (P)Ba1 long-term foreign- and local-currency senior secured ratings to Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited's (Indiabulls, Ba1 stable) USD1.5 billion Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) program. Indiabulls' (P)Ba1 senior secured EMTN program ratings and Ba1 senior secured rating are in line with the company's Ba1 corporate family rating (CFR). The senior secured notes are rated the same as the CFR because secured debt forms the predominant portion of the company's debt.
Moody's Investors Service ("Moody's") has assigned a Ba1 corporate family rating to Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited (IBH). IBH's Ba1 rating is driven by its high profitability and capital, and healthy asset quality, offset by its relatively weak funding and liquidity. Profitability is the key credit strength for the company.
Responding to media speculation that the presence of two nominee directors of RBI on the board of Lakshmi Vilas Bank implies RBI's indirect approval of the deal, the central bank said the deal does not have its approval at this stage. "It is also clarified that presence of additional directors nominated by the RBI on the Board of LVB (Lakshmi Vilas Bank) does not imply any approval of the RBI of the merger proposal", the central bank said in a statement on Saturday, adding that the directors have no view on the deal.
