I might be looking at this wrong, but I dont see any reason to own this stock besides the dividend. Its basically stalemated over the last 5 years. So why are people concerned about the stock price? If anything, should be a good thing its down because you can get more shares then and more dividend.

IEP returns 16.33% dividend however it also has diluted its shares by 21.5%.
    May 2021 - 252.49M vs May 2022 - 306.97M Shares.
I like the stock but could be a value trap in this market.

I found this on Charles Schwab might help everyone out

IEP appears to be in a strong bearish trend. Shares are below a declining 200-day moving average and the MACD is beneath its signal line. Comparative Relative Strength analysis shows that this issue is outperforming the S&P 500.

Momentum for IEP is strongly bearish. The 14-period Slow Stochastic oscillator is below 20, the level which many analysts call oversold. This means that investors have been actively selling shares and driving the price lower.

Reinvestment dividend is calculated based on the average of this week - looks like it will be a good average!
I put strict prices in for $48/sh, $47/sh and $46/sh - hope it drops more throughout the rest of the week.
    Bullish

I'm long IEP and very much like it for a number of reasons, especially past history of performance.
Does anyone out there have similar funds/stocks to IEP? High Div, with a long and stable history? IEP seems to be in a league of it's own, but surely there are other similar ones out there. I own AOD as well which I like (about 8% div).
    Thanks

You people are too funny! You think something sinister is afoot because IEP is down a couple percent over the last few days. The S&P 500 index is down 19.85% YTD and IEP is only down 2.55% YTD. IEP is in a very small way catching up the the interest rate hikes and the tumble of the overall market.

if this is true then doesnt it support the arguement thet div is safe? The logic behind it is this...if they can afford to pay such a high div when they lose money then there should be no problem paying same div or higher when they make profit.

Icahn Enterprises is bordering on breakeven, according to some American Industrials analysts. They expect the company to post a final loss in 2021, before turning a profit of US$125m in 2022. So, the company is predicted to breakeven approximately 12 months from now or less
