IP just announced they are accepting the over tender offer for reducing debt at "high" rates from 400 million to 500 million. Between this, Ilim and slow down/price erosion, market is concerned about dividend.

No doubt a bunch of cash was wasted on buy backs at much higher prices that did nothing.

Jefferies downgrades IP from neutral to underperform, lowers target from $40 to $31.

Back in November, Jefferies cut IP target from $80 to $55.

IP has cut it's long term debt from $10 bil to $5 bil over the last two years.

The dividend should hold up pretty well.

If IP does drop to $31, it would have more to do with a bad stock market than IP having financial difficulties.

Just ride this out and collect a good dividend.

Same share price as October 1, 1992.........30 years ago. But don't worry on the next earnings call Mark Sutton will say IP is "performing well".

IP down 25% in 2 weeks (much more than the market) BUT, I'm sure that the CEO will come on to the next earnings call and say......"IP is performing well".

FEDX missed earnings.....says lower shipping volumes. That can't be good for box makers.

Sell off is over done , downgrade is overkill. Ip has decreased debt. Even with a pullback in earnings were looking at a 10 PE ratio and a nice dividend. Sales will rebound by the end of next year. Stock will trade back to the mid to high 40s.

Stop the panicking. IP spun off printing paper division. They are mostly carboard packaging and hygiene products. Shipping will come back and people will not go without there toilet paper. Paper is not going away. If anything plastics may go away because of the harm to environment and paper packaging could get stronger. These analyst are probably buying right now if truth is known. Should be illegal . They say sell after stock has already tanked and they say buy after it has already went up. They are in it for themselves. Seen this scenario time and time again with this same stock. Have followed this stock for nearly 40 years. Like someone else said the debt has been cut in half. Shares have been reduced by 20 % since 2010.
5.2 % dividend. Good value right now.

This market could possibly go down as the worst year in history for stocks. It's insidious because we haven't had one of those waterfall "crashes" but it's been nothing but down, actually for about a year and a half now for tech.
