My opinion: This stock has a very high risk ( Fraud allegations, customers and profit drops) with very marginal possible gain due to high competition and China exchange rate. This might go to $3 in no time but it will never go back to $44 as it was 2 years ago.

Question for Debate: Given IQ generates about 25¢ per MAU (monthly active user) in ad revs per month from their approx 370M freebies ($90M ad rev per mo ÷ 370M MAUs = about $0.25) and with the sub price hike of about 30% making avg income per sub (including promos) now being around 2.15 per mo, that's about 1 prem sub = 8.6 freebies.
Question is a hypothetical one, if no free platform available anymore (like nflx), how many of the 8.6 freebies could be expected to convert to a paying sub? 1 out of 8 would break even, 2 out of 8 would double. thx
PS: for perspective, 2.15 a month = about half the price of just 1 avg imported beer in a Beijing bar per mo.

Time to refresh a few factoids on IQ. More than half of IQ customers are continuous paying subscription members-the service without intro ads. That service price was increased effective 16 Nov. 2020 from 15 Yuan to 19 Yuan(US$2.88 per month)-a 27% increase. It is true that both IQ and Tencent have struggled to be profitable due to heavy costs of continuous original content. That's the first price increase in 10 years while Netflix, for example, has implemented numerous price increases without any significant melt in its customer base. Its main competitor for original content -Tencent- also announced a price increase above the current 19 Yuan rate. So we shouldn't see many customers jump ship for that reason. As of June 2020, IQ had 104.9 million subscribers whereas Tencent had 110 million. (FYI Netflix has 141 million worldwide).

BEIJING, Nov. 30, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- iQIYI Inc. (NASDAQ: IQ) ("iQIYI" or the "Company"), an innovative, market-leading online entertainment service in China, is pleased to announce that the Company's RiCH BOOM made its global debut on November 29, becoming the first Chinese virtual idol group to appear on MTV Video Music Awards Japan (VMAJ).

iQIYI’s RiCH BOOM Makes Global Debut as the First Chinese Virtual Idol to Appear on MTV Video Music Awards Japan

RiCH BOOM performed the new English-language version music video (MV) of its hit song "Highlight" at MTV VMAJ2020, making another virtual idol (group or individual) to appear on this stage after Japan's Hatsune Miku. RiCH BOOM used tech elements and refreshing visuals as part of its appearance. VMAJ is one of Asia's largest music events. This year it focuses upon digitalized platforms and innovative music trends.

    Super Cyber Monday
RiCH BOOM's first step onto the international stage

RiCH BOOM, developed by iQIYI, is China's first virtual idol group featuring trendy culture and pop music. It has appeared as a host, contestant and guest performer on multiple top iQIYI variety shows such as Youth With You, I'm CZR, The Rap of China and FOURTRY. The band's apprentice Jasmine and band member K-ONE, recently appeared on Dimension Nova, iQIYI's first variety show for virtual idols, while band members RAINBOW and PAPA are due to appear on the show.

In the early stages of creating the virtual idol group, iQIYI positioned RiCH BOOM as a concept that should have widespread appeal and the potential for global expansion. Powered by iQIYI's platform and technology, RiCH BOOM conveys youthfulness and positive energy, winning it hearts from day one.

Since its debut in China, RiCH BOOM's popular music videos have generated millions of online views. "Dare" and "Highlight," for example, have generated 96 million related posts on Weibo and over 60 million views on video streaming services.

RiCH BOOM's music has been recognized by MTV for its unique style and first-class, Hollywood-level production values. The VMAJ debut represents RiCH BOOM's first step in going global. The band will further collaborate with MTV to showcase the music charm of Chinese trendy virtual idols to the world.

    Commercializing hot IP

As an idol group focused on pop music, RiCH BOOM has made solid forays into fashion and merchandising, such as K-ONE's PLOG-themed street snaps. This is the first virtual street snap series in China that adopts digital human simulation technology. The snapshots have achieved high precision, garnering wide-spread acclaim. Following the launch of street snaps, several major fashion brands have expressed their interest in cooperating with RiCH BOOM on further tech-powered fashion initiatives.

RiCH BOOM's influence and commercial value are constantly expanding. The band has landed deals with Tsingtao Brewery, Nongfu Spring, Sprite and other big brands in China. Its first batch of spin-off merchandise were sold out within three hours of release. Another batch of derivative products co-designed by Australian artist Ashley Wood will be launched soon.

Amid the explosive popularity of ACG culture, and the rise of related industries, the way young people consume entertainment is constantly changing thanks to the rapid development of technology.

These changing consumption patterns require the market to create entertainment that is more refreshing, and more interactive. Virtual idols are a perfect combination of entertainment and technology that seamlessly encapsulates this trend while inspiring people's imaginations. In the future, iQIYI will continue to promote the development of the RiCH BOOM IP across the business chain, exploring new business models for virtual idols by diversifying content development and strengthening interaction modes via cutting edge marketing and merchandising initiatives.

I have another idea! let's all spend the day responding again and again to the non-shareholders tales of woe about IQ. To save time I have numbered these woes so we can just use numbers to refer to them. In no particular order of importance to them: These woes will of course encompass all about the 1) number of subs, 2) SEC, 3) Dilution, 4) earnings drama, 5) replacing management, and 6) forward guidance, either completely, or just in part. Each of the Broke Back Mt. Gang suck ups will at some point "enhance this effort" by taking their turn claiming that, 7) now is the wrong time to own IQ. See now how it works again and again? So in the interest of saving time and avoiding redundancy please refer to them by number from this list:

    1) number of subs
    2) SEC
    3) Dilution
    4) earnings drama
    5) replacing management
    6) forward guidance
    7) now is the wrong time to own IQ

Hope the number system will save some response time as this poop is really getting old.

    Re: Deal News:
    - Need more details, i.e. Is Baidu looking to sell "all" their interest in IQ or just controlling interest = about 1.6B ordinary B shares (10 votes ea) = 229M ADSs (since total of A + B shares = 5.1B = 733M ADSs) or just 31% of IQ's outstanding shares. At Baidu's IQ valuation of $20B, that's 27.26 per share and just $6.24B to buy controlling interest in IQ. But if Baidu insisting on selling all their shares, about 400M ADSs, it's about $11B or about 57% more = big difference. Again, we need more details but 6.24B seems like a bargain to buy controlling interest of a company with a current market cap of $16B.
    - Don't believe SEC investigation has had any bearing on any potential deal since all 3 parties interested approached IQ "after" the Wolfpack short report. Also, since Baidu conducted their IQ internal investigation while well aware of current SEC investigation, would they risk their credibility and cap when IQ only reps about 20% of their value? Sincerely doubt it and believe all the 3 high end parties interested must believe the same.
    - As far as the anti-monopoly issue is concerned, believe only a Tencent merger faces this potential State scrutiny which would leaves Baba and Byte in play, imo, since Tencent is IQ's only real long form competition and would remain their competition = no monopoly.
    - today's price action on very high volume for a 1/2 day doesn't indicate much market concern about today's news (any potential deals on hold, cash raise 'may' be coming soon).
    - All in all, personally, not too concerned. Have a great weekend!

Interesting to see BABA and ByteDance interested in IQ.

The negotiations have stalled and now gone public. BIDU values its 56% stake in IQ at $20B. Tencent says $10B. BABA chimes in at the same valuation of $10B. Bytedance is quiet on valuation comments.

So that is classic negotiating ploys by both sides. Overvalue and undervalue, the real value lies between both numbers and typically the seller has a number closer to the hard assets and intrinsic value of the developed technologies.

So looking at both sets of valuation numbers, what is the real current value of IQ?

At a current $15B valuation of 100% of all shares as of the posting of that article several days back when pps was $24+ that day, and using BIDU's 56% stake, we can take a mean between the 2 valuations of $10B & $20B and say $15B give or take. Using those numbers and percentages it puts a current valuation at around $29B - $30B when adding the additional 44% of shares into the equation. You then get a pps around $33 - $34.

That would explain why the stock rose back all day Weds after the weak retail sellers exited in the morning. Smart investors understand how negotiating tactics work.

Large block purchases outpaced large block sales 4 to 1. Money inflows were positive $2.71M even as the pps dropped at few dimes (.38 cents and it regained .20 cents of that in heavy AH volume) That is classic accumulation. Total daily volume was huge at 13.41M shares.

IQ is undervalued here at $22 range. Going higher imo. Do your DD, don't invest by my posts or any others.
