    BT retains UK Champions League rights in ‘must-win’ auction

    BT has retained UK broadcast rights to the Champions League, paying £1.2bn to continue screening matches from Europe’s leading club football competition in a “must-win” deal that underpins its sports channel. The telecoms group announced on Friday it would remain the “exclusive home” for matches for the major club competitions run by Uefa, European football’s governing body, between 2021 and 2024. BT’s current three-year deal, which includes rights to matches from the Champions League as well as the Europa League, the region’s second-tier club competition.

    Rugby World Cup boosts ITV’s advertising revenue

    The Rugby World Cup helped to lift ITV’s advertising revenues in the third quarter, as the broadcaster steadied its performance to report modest growth at the higher end of its guidance. ITV shares have been on an improving trend since August, after the home of Love Island and I’m a Celebrity beat expectations and started to stem the decline in its main revenue stream. Like other commercial broadcasters, it is facing pressure from a decline in advertising spending and the accelerating shift of audiences from traditional television to online services.

    Channel 4 has agreed to provide programmes to BritBox, the subscription streaming service, in a long-awaited deal that brings together Britain’s main public service channels under the ITV-led initiative. BritBox announced on Thursday that it was “open for business” as it unveiled the three-year content deal with Channel 4, a partnership agreement with BT’s EE mobile service and arrangements with Samsung to promote the BritBox app on smart televisions.

    UPDATE 1-French media company Banijay close to buying Endemol -source

    French media company Banijay is close to sealing a deal to acquire Endemol Shine, the production house behind such global television hits as "The Voice" and "Black Mirror," a source close to the matter said on Tuesday, confirming earlier media reports. The deal would end a months-long, bumpy race for Endemol Shine to find a buyer. Netherlands-based Endemol, co-owned by Walt Disney Co and private equity group Apollo Global Management , was put up for sale in July 2018 with a price tag of 2.5 billion euros-3 billion euros ($2.78 billion-$3.34 billion).
