    CORRECTED-Ivanhoe's S.African unit to fund up to $420 mln for palladium, platinum mine

    Canada-based Ivanhoe Mines saidon Tuesday its South African unit has agreed to finance up to$420 million to start mining work on the company's Platreefpalladium and platinum project. The subsidiary, Ivanplats, has signed with Orion MineFinance for $300 million, while it has appointed SocieteGenerale and Nedbank to arrange for up to $120 million in loans,Ivanhoe said. "The production of key 'green metals' needed to reducegreenhouse gas emissions is at a critical inflection point asbusinesses are pressed to secure long-term supplies," Ivanhoeco-chairman Robert Friedland said in a statement.

    Ivanhoe Mines taking 'hard look' at U.S. projects

    Canadian exploration company Ivanhoe Mines is taking a "hard look" at projects in the United States amid a rush for green metals, Executive Co-Chairman Robert Friedland said on Monday. U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has indicated support boosting domestic production of metals used to make electric vehicles, solar panels and other products crucial to his climate plan. "We’ve been taking a hard look at projects in those states in the United States where we think we can get a social license to mine," Friedland said in a pre-recorded address at a virtual conference hosted by the Canada-based Association of Mineral Exploration.
