There’s a new twist to the escalating auto dealership acquisitions in the Pittsburgh region — a swap — as Bowser Automotive Inc. made a power play. Bowser, the Pleasant Hills-based business that’s operated for 36 years, has traded its McMurray Cadillac store to Lithia Motors Inc. for the publicly traded firm’s Chevrolet dealership in Monroeville that still carries the name of what used to be one of Pittsburgh’s largest car companies, Day Automotive. “We were interested in expanding our business and having a significant presence with Chevrolet in the Pittsburgh market and Lithia was interested in our McMurray property, so we felt this was worked for both parties involved,” Gary Bowser Jr., dealer principal, said via email.

Avis Budget Group Inc. said Tuesday it has named John North III as chief financial officer, effective March 18. North is a former CFO of Lithia Motors Inc. who helped that automotive retailer expand from 2010 to 2018, completing several acquisitions and helping to integrate them. He will replace interim CFO Martyn Smith, who will remain at the company in an advisory role for at least six months after North joins.
