OTTAWA, Ontario, March 01, 2019 -- Telesat Canada (“Telesat”) today announced its financial results for the three-month and one-year periods ended December 31, 2018. All.
SEATTLE/PARIS (Reuters) - A rocket carrying six satellites built by Airbus SE and partner OneWeb blasted off from French Guiana on Wednesday, the first step in a plan to give millions of people in remote and rural areas high-speed internet beamed down from space. Companies like Elon Musk's SpaceX, LeoSat Enterprises, and Canada's Telesat are working to enable data networks with hundreds or even thousands of tiny satellites that orbit closer to Earth than traditional communications satellites, a radical shift made possible by leaps in laser technology and computer chips. The growth in satellites will spur demand for rocket launch services, and a handful of venture-backed rocket companies are developing smaller boosters to deploy the smaller satellites at lower cost.
OTTAWA, Feb. 21, 2019 -- Telesat has scheduled a conference call on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. ET to discuss its financial results for the three month and one-year.
Jeff Bezos' rocket company, Blue Origin, has signed a deal with Canada's Telesat to launch part of a satellite constellation aimed at providing speedy internet access to governments and businesses globally, the companies said on Thursday. The contract adds an important customer to Blue Origin's manifest as Bezos' space venture works to grab a share of the lucrative but crowded launch services market with its still-in-development heavy-lift New Glenn rocket planned for 2021. Telesat, backed by Loral Space & Communications Inc, said in October that it conducted the first-ever live test of in-flight broadband via a satellite in low-Earth orbit.
Canadian telecom Telesat has inked a couple of deals that could boost its aim to become a key player in the satellite internet field. It's planning to establish a low-earth orbit network of 292 satellites, with Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin helping to deploy them. Telesat will also useAlphabet-owned Loon's networking system to make sure the satellites work in harmony.
