The downgrade is exactly the sort of thing some analysts have been sitting on. They are all trying to catch the inflection point, when the chip mfg biz goes from under-capacity to meeting capacity to over-capacity. So some will jump to downgrades once they perceive we hit peak under-capacity. The first one to jump is the Susquehanna guy. But here's the thing. Even if he is right that we're around the peak under-capacity, it is not at all obvious we'll get to meeting capacity anytime soon. Let alone go too far and have the chip biz hit over-capacity, which is the point equipment orders will slow/delay.

Today we have chip shortages in plenty of places. Many are forecasting it'll take a year to fully catch up. And by then, we'll have 5G phones hitting their major growth window, as 5G becomes more useful. Autonomous driving is a few more years out, but after the 5G cycle peaks, these new vehicles will suck up chips at double the rate of most of today's vehicles. And the trend towards digitization isn't slowing down even a little bit. Indeed, its now the ante for most businesses -- if you don't digitize much of your operation, no one will invest in it. And yeah, computational medicine will soak up chips like nothing else in history because biology is really complicated and the computing horsepower needed to solve things like cancers and autoimmune diseases is staggering.

All this isn't to suggest that there will never be another cloudy day for AMAT. But they'll be few and far between. And they won't last long either. Because ship consumption is going to grow enormously and for a long time. And they need $AMAT, $LRCX, $KLAC, $ASML, etc to do this.

As for AMAT, you can this set-up for a below market multiple!! Geez ...

Ok I have read enough of this BS.All of the CEOs of semi equipment companies have guided higher for revenues and earnings. All are buying back shares and increasing dividends.Only LRCX is being attacked and downgraded. Why? Zacks has forcast EPS this quarter at $8.13. Does that sound like a company in trouble? I don't think so. New equipment faciities take 3-5 years to build and come on line.Toyota has already said there will be a shortage of chips through 2022 and even into 2023.More EVs will be coming on line over the next 5 years. So all the math is pointing to a big boom in semiconductors over the next 3-5 years at the minimum.I am not selling any of my shares in LRCX or Apple no matter what MS or Susquehanna says.I still think LRCX hits $700 this year.

The entire semiconductor sector appears to be under fire from so called "analysts" that are actually jack-of-all-trades but masters of NONE. Their archaic thinking in traditional cyclical rotations of the semiconductor industry is forcing stocks prices lower. Even when most chip and equipment companies are crushing earnings, are producing at max capacity, increasing prices, and raising guidance. Global demand would be high regardless of any shortage. 5G, AI, EV, crypto, data centers, cloud tech, gaming, eSports were already ensuring this growth and demand. Now add the new infrastructure spending and the global "arms race" that's taking place. We are in the beginning of a super cycle like never seen, likely lasting many years. Semiconductors are the new #1 global resource....the new oil.
(Fabless) companies like $NVDA, $AMD, $MRVL, $AVGO, $QCOM design the most advanced and sought after semiconductors in the world. (Fab-owning) companies like $TSM, $TXN, $ADI, $QRVO manufacture the chips. Companies like $AMAT, $ASML, $LRCX, $KLAC, $UCTT, $ICHR make all the equipment and materials used by those chip manufacturers. High tide raises all boats! .....and many of these companies are already currently undervalued. GLTA

You will see that a director sold 500 shares of his LRCX which is a stock incentive plan that was "scheduled" to be sold according to his trading planned made in FEBRUARY.

Here is my post on the KLAC site on the same topic:

FYI......please do not take the insider sales of shares as a sign that you should sell too. These are "planned sales" from back in February NOT an indication that the director/executive thinks the stock has peaked. For instance, the most recent insider sale was at a price of $341 and todays price (4 days later) is $356 so it is not a case of the company executive thinking the price is high. Poor reason to sell your shares

Anyone notice that new iphones can have 1 terabyte of memory? (NAND of course)
I think the weakness of Lam with respect to KLAC and AMAT is due to Lam's NAND exposure (50% of Revenue) Both the DRAM and NAND markets are very volatile and it's hard to make projections. I think the continued growth of cloud service providers + consumer products will keep NAND market strong. Micron's earnings in a couple of weeks should be fascinating for Lam stock holders...

Semi Fabs are now National Security Issue.......every country or economic bloc will need to have Fabs within their territory ...........for the Semi Equipment Companies like AMAT, LRCX, KLAC and very few others, this will be mean huge growing business for decades ! I see this company's shares going up 5X to 10X in 10 years......BOOM!

The analysts are downgrading LRCX and telling us retail investors to take profits. Meanwhile the fund houses are getting war chest ready. :)

LRCX opening a new manufacturing plant in Oregon is a message. They see future demand. GREAT place to add some shares.

OK followers of my post, here's some "news you can use". The semi cap equipment stocks had a good day today (Friday)...... but why? Could it be the fabulous report by AVGO? Was it the fact that TSM announced a 20% increase in their chip prices to Apple? These 2 events sent a strong message no doubt. But here is something else that is happening. That Infrastructure bill with the $52B of spend for semiconductor capacity expansion is a "known event" but I do not think that it is factored into the future revenue and EPS guidance for these companies (LRCX, AMAT, KLAC, ASML). In addition to this, next week is the beginning of conferences where these companies will provide a preview of their current "state of business". The analyst will adjust their outlook based on what they hear in these presentations, and I believe it will be a VERY positive outlook. By the end of next week it will be too late to catch the train. The earnings reports a month later will just reflect what the analyst hear over the next 2-3 weeks. GLTU

Some relative strength for AMAT today considering $lrcx was down more than 2%. They rarely diverge like that. I don't see any specific news. Strange.

Medhi Hosseini (susquehana) upgraded KLAC today and lowered LRCX and AMAT.
    KLAC opened higher....

I am a little (always) surprised at how much these analysts move these stocks. You can check analyts record with tipranks...he's right 57% of the time (last 12 months)...his 1 year return is 12.5% on his reccomendations....hmmm...S&P moved up 29% in the last year...so his "pics" returned less than half of the S&P.

IBD rating upgrade today. Lam Research (LRCX), one of the top-rated tech stocks, just got a rating lift. On Friday, the chip equipment giant's Relative Strength (RS) Rating climbed to 75, up from 70. Lam Research stock rose 4.1% Friday.

The 75 RS Rating means that Lam Research stock is outperforming 75% of all stocks, regardless of industry group.

The big winner in this cycle will be LRCX who can now repurchase shares at a big discount and increase their EPS.With the demand for chips very strong and no relief in sight for supply, the whole sector is overdue for a huge breakout to the upside.Buy more shares if you can and hold until the new cycle begins. The old high of $673 will be surpassed.

OK folks the dividend increase is a "token increase". Management does this to send a signal that things a VERY good with EPS, revenue, etc.... This stock is down from $679 high (almost $100/share). They are sending you a message. Take the message...this stock can move $40/share in a "heartbeat". It has a small float.
