PEOPLE READ THE REPLIES. This wasn't a dividend, it was a capital gain. They basically sold off almost 20% of the shares in the fund, so that the price goes down (they don't like to keep fund higher than 15 it seems). Just like my account, it hasn't posted yet but will be seeing almost 20% more shares in your account soon.

Paul, this explains capital gains distribution on a mutual fund very well

Hello, this fund took a big dump today, any idea when my dividend will post to my account ?
    Bullish

Just remember, the higher the capital gains, the lower the stock goes by that much after the distribition. Same money in the mutual fund, you just own more shares at a lesser price.

Why did this fund drop like this?

Dividend will be paid on Dec 2. Last year's dividend was .643. How much will it be?

This is like a secret fund. No info on the div and shares given out in Dec. I've held this since '18 and almost doubled my money.

Dividends paid every December 2 make the price drop, but you should have more shares...

Any ideas about this years dividend? I'm hoping for at least a buck.

The reason it's down is the Big Boy stocks are down. I bought some more trying to average down my cost per share but it's a little soon to tell if that was a good move. Over the years this has been a good one to have. I'm afraid if I roll it over to a Municipal Bond that I may miss out on the serge when this flips around. When this fund takes off it banks but when the market does what it's doing now we could be down 40% for a short while but it always comes back strong. It's still one of my favorites.

    I'm 64. I've been doing this for a while.
Best strategy I've found is to trade mutual funds based on the crossing of the 13 and 36 moving averages.
When the 13 crosses above the 36, you buy. When the 13 crosses below the 36, you sell.
This strategy prevents you from taking huge hits when the market sells off and allows you to buy more shares close to the bottoms.
I've set this chart to "weekly" for the past 5 years. But, you can change that to "daily" and 1-2 years and get a closer look at the present.
