The comment came after the Nikkei, revered in Japan for its business news and known for its market-moving scoops and previews, said Nissan would cut its global production by about 15 percent for the current fiscal year ending March 2020. The move would mark a shift away from the aggressive expansion campaign promoted by ousted former Chairman Carlos Ghosn, the Nikkei said. "The details reported in this story are completely incorrect, and Nissan has voiced its strong objection to the Nikkei," the Japanese automaker said in a statement posted on its website.
Japan's Nikkei rose on Friday as investors snapped up cyclical stocks, while Nintendo jumped after Tencent won approval to sell its Switch console in China. Shares of Nintendo Co soared after China's Tencent won a key approval to begin selling Nintendo's Switch console in China, the world's largest games market.
Hyundai Motor Co has appointed Jose Munoz as global chief operating officer and Americas chief, tapping a man formerly considered an ally and potential successor of Nissan Motor Co Ltd's ousted Chairman Carlos Ghosn. Munoz is the latest foreign executive to be brought in to a South Korean automaker dominated by lifelong loyalists, as heir-apparent Euisun Chung strengthens control of the conglomerate chaired by his aging father. In the U.S., Hyundai is also the subject of a regulatory investigation into the timeliness of vehicle recalls involving defective engines.
Nissan Motor Co. shares fell Friday in Japan after a report that it will slash its worldwide output by 15% for the current fiscal year. Nikkei reported the Japanese auto maker is dropping an aggressive expansion plan that former Chairman Carlos Ghosn had supported, and will produce about 4.6 million vehicles in the fiscal year ending March 2020. That would be the lowest output total for Nissan in nine years, Nikkei said. Earlier this year, Nissan cut its operating profit outlook. Ghosn was removed as chairman in November and is currently being held in jail in Tokyo on financial misconduct charges. Nissan shares are down nearly 6% over the past six months, compared to the Nikkei 225 index's 2% decline over that span.
Munoz, who will take charge on May 1, has also been named president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor North America and Hyundai Motor America. Previously, Munoz, 53, was Nissan Motor Co's chief performance officer and head of its China operations.
TOKYO (AP) — Japan's top court said Thursday it has rejected an appeal by former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn's lawyers against his extended detention after his fourth arrest on allegations of financial misconduct.
Hyundai has appointed José Muñoz, the most senior Nissan executive to leave the Japanese carmaker in the wake of the Carlos Ghosn arrest, as its chief operating officer. Mr Muñoz will be based in California and will be responsible for the company’s global operations and strategy, with the aim of increasing its profitability. Mr Muñoz left Nissan in January following a leave of absence taken after Mr Ghosn’s arrest on corruption charges.
The efforts by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to head off changes in the two-decade alliance show concern was mounting in top echelons of the Japanese government -- months before Ghosn’s arrest on allegations of financial wrongdoing -- that his push to cement a new alliance structure, would boost Renault and its largest shareholder, the French state, at Nissan’s expense. The emails, which were either addressed to Ghosn or copied to him, also show Nissan’s leadership trying to protect the company’s interests in a relationship the Japanese already saw as one-sided.
Nissan didn't give fans a new GT-R or a new Z at the 2019 New York Auto Show. Instead, Nissan celebrated the 50th anniversaries of the models with special-edition packages and with the unveiling of the upgraded 2020 GT-R Nismo. The changes aren't massive, but Nissan claims the adjustments come together to make a noticeable difference.

The new Nissan Sylphy has debuted at the Shanghai Motor Show. While the Sylphy name might not mean much to North American Nissan customers, it is highly likely the car will also serve as the new 2020 Nissan Sentra. The latest iteration updates the Sylphy/Sentra to the current Nissan design language, complete with the C-pillar cut to achieve an illusion of a "floating" roof.
TOKYO (AP) — The wife of Carlos Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan and Renault, said Wednesday she is worried whether her husband, detained in Japan on financial misconduct allegations, will receive a fair trial, and expressed outrage over a justice system that dragged him back into custody.
The first electric car for Nissan Motor Co's premium brand Infiniti will be a sporty sedan produced in China, the Japanese carmaker said in a statement viewed by Reuters ahead of a public announcement expected as soon as Wednesday. The vehicle would hit the market in around three years, and consumers would get a taste when the company unveils a concept car, dubbed the Qs Inspiration electric sedan, at the Shanghai auto show later this week, Nissan officials said. "China has the most growth potential for electric vehicles globally, especially in the premium segment," Infiniti Chairman Christian Meunier said in the statement seen by Reuters.

The other combinations are Pearl White with red stripes and Super Silver with white stripes, each with color accents on the wheels. Nissan promises other refinements to the transmission, electronically controlled suspension and steering (improved steering up to 300 km/h, Nissan's release notes). Beyond the 50th Anniversary Edition, the 2020 Nissan GT-R will come in three trim levels: GT-R Premium, GT-R Track Edition and GT-R Nismo.
It does so with an appearance package that recalls the SCCA National Championship years in the #46 BRE 240Z. The accent color goes on the hood, trunk, A-pillars, and side mirrors, and an accent stripe runs the length of the coupe to terminate in a triangle just behind the side glass.

SHANGHAI (AP) — Automakers showcased electric SUVs and sedans with longer range and luxury features Tuesday at the Shanghai auto show, wooing Chinese buyers as Beijing slashes subsidies that helped to launch the industry.
Although Nissan’s sales grew, the overall industry had difficulties, Makoto Uchida, president of Nissan’s Chinese joint venture, said at the Shanghai Auto Show. With government help, Uchida thinks there’s “a lot of potential” for the market to recover in the second half.
