    PORTLAND, Ore., June 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Oregon took a major step forward toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector thanks to Senate Bill 1044, passed in the Legislature Tuesday and headed to Gov. Kate Brown for her signature. "With the passage of Senate Bill 1044, Oregon is helping lead the nation on how to transition to a cleaner, modern transportation system," Gov. Brown said.     Nearly 20,000 Portland General Electric residential customers who typically pay around 12 cents for a kilowatt-hour of electricity will soon get the opportunity to earn $1 for not using it. The peak-time rebate, just approved by Oregon regulators, is part of a testbed pilot program aimed at boosting capacity through expanded use of “demand-side resources” that could be less expensive and more environmentally friendly than increasing supply. PGE expects to begin promoting the rebate program in the next month or so to customers around three substations — in Hillsboro, North Portland and Milwaukie — and begin offering rebates this summer.
