PRGS- Up 32% & new high on flat EPS yoy ?

Today the company posted $.50 in EPS for Q1 2019, which beat lowered expectations by $.03, and $.06 less than the year ago qtr. They are guiding for $2.49 avg EPS for 2019 vs $2.50 for 2018, despite an acquisition a company named Ipswitch. However although the acquisition is not bringing more EPS for the new company, they will show around 11% more in total revenues for 2019 vs 2018.

So for no growth in EPS yoy and 11% more in revenues, they company is up 26% after hours, and 30% for the day, and a new all time high ! Can anyone please tell me why this is the case ?

Currently researching TER for Wednesday AH Pure Earnings play, and I am getting a little bit excited. :-) Still have to probe further, but this stock is looking VERY good to me upon preliminary analysis. Reminding me a little of PRGS, in terms of having very good upside potential and excellent odds of coming in with a very good ER. Earnings history is OUTSTANDING, they have beaten consensus on both EPS and Revenue for the past SIXTEEN consecutive quarters. Stock has reacted very well to recent ER's. Valuation is quite good for a tech stock, not undervalued but also definitely not overvalued. Still has room to run up on a very good ER, I think. This could be a hidden Gem for next week, imo. BUt of course, as everyone knows, I could be completely and totally wrong.

Would welcome any thoughts/opinions from other traders! :-)

Out PRGS at $49.33 for an outstanding profit on 1900 shares. In at $46.69, out less than 24 hours later for a gain of $2.64 on every single share. That's how the Pure Earnings game SHOULD work out, every single time. Made more $ on this play, than I do working manual labor, 40+ hours a week for almost 2 full months. :-)

    Time to Celebrate another Win!

Best of Luck to All. :-)

Excellent Guidance going forward, this is the type of guidance that can give a stock 15-20% pop to the upside, when accompanied by solid beats of EPS and Revenue. Not predicting 20% upside from today's close, but 12-15%+ is very reasonable/possible, IMO:

The company said it expects first quarter non-GAAP earnings of $0.69 to $0.71 per share on revenue of $110.0 million to $113.0 million and fiscal 2020 earnings of $2.87 to $2.92 per share on revenue of $448.0 million to $455.0 million. The current consensus earnings estimate is $0.63 per share on revenue of $103.9 million for the quarter ending February 29, 2020 and $2.84 per share on revenue of $436.7 million for the year ending November 30, 2020.

Got a brand new Analyst Comment and PT raise, not as great as I would have hoped, but still very positive:

Benchmark analyst Mark Schappel raised his price target for Progress Software shares to $57 after what he called an "exceptionally strong" Q4 earnings report and based on management's "relatively new" strategy of using M&A to drive growth and operating margin leverage. He maintains a Buy rating on Progress shares.

PRGS is currently NOT covered by ANY major, ranked Analysts. It would be awesome if at least one of them stepped up to the plate this morning and issued a Buy or Strong Buy recommendation, with a $60+ price target. I am NOT expecting that to happen, but it is one of numerous plausible scenarios that could lift this up to $55+ today. :-)

More positive comments and PT raise from another analyst:

Steve Koening at Wedbush said that the strong quarter improved the company’s visibility for fiscal 2020. Given “the consistency of its execution” and guidance for an increase in free cash flow of between $16 million and $20 million in 2020, Koening said shares were due for an upward swing .

Koening raised his price target on the stock to $58 from $52 with an outperform rating.

Long $1900 shares PRGS at $46.69. This is a Pure EArnings play. PRGS reports in a few minutes, I am expecting solid beats on EPS and Revenue, along with good Guidance, to push this stock up to the $49-$51 level. This is an undervalued tech stock with room to run, IF the ER is very good.

Best of Luck to All and lets see what happens, I sure HOPE my winning streak will continue in this one! :-)

To me, HAL is a good example of a Pure Earnings play to AVOID. They report Monday AH, and there are very few companies reporting on this date. I would like to do an Earnings Play for Monday AH/Tuesday PM, but I will not choose a "toss-up" trade, meaning a trade where there is not good and clear indication of upside or downside potential. I am fine either way, feel perfectly comfortable Selling Short. But HAL is just giving conflicting signals. It is undervalued but poorly managed, Guiding lower but analysts are bullish, etc... This is about a 12-12 on my 24 point checklist, and that means it is a BAD play, in my book. It is bad because it is a toss-up, to go up or to go down, after earnings, IMO. So, I reject the play and will probably wait until Tuesday PM/WEdnesday AM, where I have already found several good candidates to play. :-)

UAL and PLD are looking very good to me as next Pure Earnings plays, with NFLX ranking slightly behind. Would be happy to hear from other traders, their thoughts and analysis of these 3 potential Pure Earnings plays to the upside. :-)
