    U.S. retail vacancies marginally rise in second quarter - Reis

    U.S. retail vacancies rose marginally to 10.2 percent in the second quarter, hurt by bankrupt toy retailer Toys "R" Us Inc's store closures, real estate research firm Reis Inc said in a report on Monday. The store closings impacted the quarter's statistics "more than any other retailer has in any quarter over the last nine years", Reis said. "After withstanding the hundreds if not thousands of store closings over the last 18 months, the neighborhood and community shopping center industry suffered its worst quarter in nine years," the Reis report said.

The vacancy rate reached 8.6% in the second quarter, up from 8.4% in the first quarter, as more consumers shifted their shopping online, according to data from real-estate research firm Reis Inc. The highest postrecession vacancy was in the third quarter of 2011, when it hit 9.4%, Reis said. The impact is especially severe among strip malls and other neighborhood and community shopping centers, which suffered their worst quarter in nine years.

    U.S. apartment vacancy rate up slightly in second quarter - Reis

    The U.S. apartment vacancy rate continued its steady climb, rising marginally in the second quarter from the first, real estate research firm Reis Inc said in a report on Tuesday. The national apartment vacancy rate rose to 4.8 percent in the second quarter from 4.7 percent in the previous quarter, with 41 of 79 metros reporting a rise in vacancy, Reis said. "We expect construction to remain robust for the rest of 2018 and in early 2019, before completions drop off in subsequent periods," Reis said in a statement.

    U.S. office vacancy rate for the first quarter rose to 16.5 percent, the highest since 2015, despite a healthy job market, according to real estate research firm Reis Inc.
