Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon are among top defense companies reporting earnings this week as increasing global tensions have helped lift their stocks.
Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) has lost the latest round of a long-running battle over a $1.15 billion cybersecurity contract awarded to Raytheon Co. (RTN). In a ruling dated Oct. 4 and posted online Thursday , the Government Accountability Office denied Falls Church-based Northrop’s bid protest claiming that Raytheon had an unfair competitive advantage because it hired former employees of the Department of Homeland Security, the agency behind the massive DOMino contract. Northrop also maintained that DHS failed to revise the request for proposals to reflect its changed requirements, that it unreasonably evaluated the past performance of the competitors, and that it conducted unequal discussions with the awardee.

Companies that are cyclical, industrial and/or capital intensive generally don’t concern themselves on anything but growth, with any dividend payout serving more as a token of appreciation than the primary purpose of ownership.
