Scholastic Corp. shares rallied in the extended session Thursday after the children's book publisher topped Wall Street estimates for the quarter. Scholastic shares surged 12% after hours, following a 2.1% drop in the regular session to close at $38.55. The company reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $71 million, or $2.02 a share, compared with $71.6 million, or $1.99 a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were $2.06 a share. Revenue declined to $597.2 million from $604.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast earnings of $1.77 a share on revenue of $591.2 million. Scholastic affirmed its forecast full-year revenue of $1.67 billion to $1.7 billion. Analysts expect revenue of $1.69 billion.
