Erratic dividends but when they do pay, they pay well.

As long as SCM and my other two high pay dividend stocks are paying this dividend I'm holding. Actually bought a bunch raising my average yield. I'm fairly sure money put in today yields about 14%. So if you can get past the panic, there is money to be made.

The phone call revealed some positive points, mainly that less than 3% of the portfolio is non-performing, (off accrual), as they expect full payments for the 2nd quarter. Most of the portfolio companies are backed by private equity firms and they have sufficient liquidity at present. SCM has another SBA license to draw funds which they have not fully accessed. However, on a negative they refuse to give guidance on the dividend, which they intend to wait until early July to announce. When asked if they would provide investors with press updates during this difficult period, their answer was very weak. Expect nothing but silence until July, and that uncertainty may depress the stock price even though there are no significant problems. I have confidence after the call that SCM should recover from this and be trading over $10. However, management simply will not provide any reassurance between quarterly reports. As if they want the price to remain lower for the time being is something I don't understand. IMO expect to stomach prices between $6 and $8 for the next few months.

Just bought some SCM for the high dividends. (9% - 10%). Not much info , but if this price holds plus/minus a little, I'll be adding long term.

If Robert Ladd and co. was more forthcoming on the financial health of SCM's portfolio companies, then just maybe this stock would attract new investors and it's share price wouldn't be in the single digits. They never should have switched the dividend from monthly to quarterly and waited three and a half months to announce the amount. SCM will return to it's former $15 price tag eventually, but unfortunately the management has shown complete apathy towards the shareholders.

Don't understand. This drop is concerning given the overall market is moving higher. Today is the record date for dividend, so maybe some are selling not willing to wait another quarter of speculation.

Looking at SCM's 10 year chart, they went to quarterlies December 2013 - looks like for one dividend period then came back to monthly even through the big down turn to about 7.69 around Feb 2016. This company has been through big swings and they have consistently paid .1133 through them all. I am slowly, but hopefully surely, learning to pay more attention to a company (and a President's) actions more than their words.

Do you guys think that they will pay dividend? If yes, do you expect a cut, and if yes to a cut, do you believe it will recover soon to full amount?

Not sure what's happening right now? Maybe year-end selling, positioning. Fundamentally nothing has changed. Quick recovery back over $12 before the end of the year.

I've never seen such an event rattle markets like this coronavirus. SCM is being unfairly hit hard! The portfolio is mostly private companies in US, some Canada, with strong EBITDA. This is worse because of trading liquidity issue, which is why SCM should grow its market cap.

They announced the quarterly dividend of $.25 just now. Ex-dividend date is 7/14 and the pay date is 7/31. That means they cut it by 33%. But I'm glad they finally are paying us something.

CEO bought 34K on the 17th @ 12.66 and 3K today @ 12.26. I am assuming he thinks under 13 is a good enough discount to "stock up." I do too.

As horrible as this may be it looks like we will test the lows! I'm gambling that the crisis will pass by the summer, the damage to the loan portfolio will not be so severe, and recover well. As difficult as it is to extend further, I'm ready to load up under $6. GL everyone!

For those buying long to accumulate dividends, It appears the best time to get in around or shortly after the EX date when dividend stocks prices typically drop in order to give invested money highest dividend yield. Example: $10 stock w/dividend @.10 = 12%. Stock rises to $12 @.10 = 10%. I suppose the key is feeling confident the stock will continue or raise it dividend and NOT lower it, which depends on smart management.
