Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. manufactures and sells polyvinyl chloride (PVC), semiconductor silicon wafers, silicones, and rare earth magnets worldwide. It offers PVC for use in window profiles, plastic greenhouses, siding materials, and electric lines coating materials, as well as PVC pipes and conduits; caustic soda for use in paper and pulp, soap and detergents, waste water treatment, and alumina; methanol; and chloromethane. The company also provides semiconductor silicon wafers that are used as substrate materials in personal computers, smartphones, and televisions, as well as automobiles; and compound semiconductor products for use in outdoor displays, traffic lights, in-vehicle stop lamps, sensor light sources, etc. In addition, it offers silicone products for use in electric and electronic, automobile, construction, cosmetic, chemical, and food industries; and encapsulation materials, photoresists and photomask blanks used to write semiconductor circuits, liquid fluorinated elastomers, and optical fiber preforms, as well as rare earth magnets used in automobiles, air-conditioner compressors, wind power generators, industrial robots, hard disk drives, etc;. Further, the company provides cellulose products for use in drug tablet coating and binder, and automobile exhaust gas purifying device binder; synthetic pheromones for agricultural and grain-storage pest control; silicon melts; POVAL for use in adhesives, various films, fiber treatment agents, paper processing agents, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc.; and modified resins for use in paints, adhesives, inks, etc. Additionally, it offers input devices, such as automobile dashboard audio and air conditioners, various rollers for OA equipment, wafer containers, and silicon rubber glasses. The company was formerly known as Shin-Etsu Nitrogen Fertilizer Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1940. The company was founded in 1926 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
