Sonoco Products Co. said Thursday it will raise prices between 6% and 10% on foam packaging and refrigeration products in the U.S. and Mexico, starting on or before Nov. 10. The packaging and industrial products company said the move is an attempt to offset rising input costs. "We continue to see inflation in our input costs related to EPS, EPP, PUR, corrugate, freight, flexible films and labor," said Russell Grissett, division vice president of Sonoco Protective Solutions. "Our supply management team continues to leverage our global reach; however, overall tightness in supply continues to drive up prices." The stock, which was still inactive in premarket trade, has slipped 0.9% year to date while the S&P 500 has gained 4.2%.

The study showed that the distinctive natural look of EcoTect packaging board enhances product attributes like organic and natural to help brands stand out on the retail shelf. According to the USDA, since it set formal standards for organic foods the market has taken off, posting growth of 10 percent or more each year for most years since 2000. Sonoco focus group research revealed that 89 percent of consumers purchase organic or all-natural products at least once a month, and one in three buys these products at least once a week.

Sonoco Products Co. said Monday it is raising prices on all rigid plastic packaging in the U.S. and Canada by 6% to 10% effective Nov. 5. "Continued resin disruptions, strong regional demand, and increases in other materials and freight are driving prices up throughout the supply chain," Sonoco's Jeff DiPasquale, general manager for the company's global plastics operations, said in a statement. The company will work to combat inflationary pressures, but "we must recover our current cost exposure," said DiPasquale. Sonoco shares were slightly higher in early trade Monday and have gained 3.4% in 2018, while the S&P 500 has gained 8%.
