Shares of Sequential Brands Group Inc. soared 18.5% in premarket trading Wednesday, as the active and lifestyle brands company said it would explore a potential sale of the company. Sequential Brands, which brands include Jessica Simpson, And 1, GAIAM and Joe's Jeans, said it has relaunched a "broad exploration of strategic alternatives," which could include a sale, or the divestiture of one or more of its brands. "The Company has successfully rationalized its cost structure and strengthened its relationships with key stakeholders during the past several months. We believe now is the right time to re-focus on the process of exploring strategic alternatives to fully maximize value for our shareholders," said Chief Executive William Sweedler. The stock has tumbled 31.2% year to date through Tuesday, while the S&P 500 has gained 13.4%.
