This would be a great stock for the Reddit crowd to squeeze. Shorts temporarily are in control.

Frankly, I don't want anyone to mess with TEF... it's paying this incredible dividend and it's trading at a deep discount.... let's hope for some positive developments during ER, but not too much :) The next earnins is for period ending Q1/2021 and should be on 05/13/2021
By far my best dividend decision in the past few years... and the price appreciation is a bonus...

TEF is a solid value stock - trading well off its fair value estimates. A 15-25% rise is not out of the question.

I have been stuck with Santander and Telefonica for a decade, so as you can imagine they are my biggest losses. I had thought I was conservative investing in stocks that pay great dividends. It turns out they are dividend traps. I didn't understand how messed up Europe is in terms of its socialist policies. Telefonica keeps borrowing to invest in its infrastructure while not being able to charge more for service improvements. Consolidations are much needed in Europe for telco and banking but European policies prevent them.

Being priced like it's going out of business; but it's not. They hold lots of debt, but at very low interest rates, so this stock is very mispriced right now. Could be a double within a year as investors realize it's dividend is sustainable, and these Euro telecoms are nearly all undervalued...

According to recent news Telefonica Spain exceeds 5G target with 76% coverage. I think this is a strong positive since now expenditure now represents the reward for investment in infrastructure upgrades.

Received dividend in cash. I was surprised by the 19% rate at which Vanguard brokerage withheld. I thought the rate was now 10%. https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/peoples-republic-of-china/corporate/withholding-taxes I was l not surprised but still not thrilled by the +10% reduction for "fees." It is always high but I wonder if it higher still because of conversion from the scrip dividend. I have always #$%$umed such fees were charged by Compuserve, the adr transfer agent; is this #$%$umption wrong? Any enlightenment on these points would be a help. Thanks.

    Script dividend announced. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/814052/000081405220000072/form6kspecificinfoscrip.htm
According to the 6-k: adr record date 6/18; pay date of cash option 7/3. SEC Edgar lists 2 other 6-k's from the same date.

I am not offering investment or tax advice, but if you're interested in my personal experience with the 2016 scrip dividend --- My share were held in street name and my broker called to ask if I wanted to take take the dividend in stock or cash. There were outsized fees for the cash option, so I opted for the stock which was not treated as taxable income (zero basis as if a return of capital). Stock issuance was a couple weeks after the cash distribution date and the number of shares issued was determined by dividend/an average price determined by a complicated formula. Not a great price, I remember thinking. Frankly, in retrospect, I put way too much effort into my 2016 decision, and, considering the still relatively small size of my holding, I think I'm going to do nothing and let the chips fall where they may. I hope someone finds this reminiscence helpful.

Expect to see $7 sometime in 2021. There's value to unlock in these European telecoms. Low bond yields make these dividends very attractive.
