Rodrigo Abreu is set to take over the top spot from current CEO Eurico Teles in December, O Globo said, without saying how it got its information. As the company is currently undergoing an in-court bankruptcy recovery process, the name will have to be approved by a judge in Rio de Janeiro, the paper said.

Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourao on Friday told journalists that the government will not exclude Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Co from operating a fifth-generation (5G) mobile telecoms network in Latin America's largest economy. The United States has asked countries to reject Huawei technology in the development of new mobile phone networks, arguing that it could be vulnerable to Chinese eavesdropping. U.S. President Donald Trump raised the issue with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro during a White House visit in March.
Brazilian wireless carrier TIM Participacoes SA said on Wednesday it is using equipment provided by China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd to conduct fifth-generation wireless technology (5G) tests in Florianopolis, a city in the south. "TIM wants to be the pioneer and lead 5G in both Brazil and Italy," Pietro Labriola, chief executive officer of TIM Participacoes said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that Florianopolis is the first city in Brazil to have a 5G antenna in the 3.5 GHz frequency.
Brazil's lack of reliable internet accessibility in rural areas is an increasingly critical problem for its farmers, as more agricultural equipment arriving on the market is built to be updated online to work at full capacity. Brazil's agriculture has grown at a quick pace in the last decade, putting the country at the forefront of global food production. Less than 10% of Brazilian farms have internet, according to an estimate from Tim Participações, the local arm of Telecom Italia Spa.

Brazilian wireless carrier TIM Participações SA expects to reap the benefits from cost control efforts in the second half of 2019, Chief Executive Officer Pietro Labriola said on Wednesday. Labriola said TIM's efficiency plan was evolving better than expected, with 190 million reais ($48.33 million) in cost cuts in the first quarter. "We have delivered 25 percent of targets set for 2019 in the efficiency plan and we should start seeing benefits later this year, possibly in the second semester," he told analysts and investors in a call to discuss quarterly earnings.

The chief executive of Brazil's third largest wireless carrier TIM Participações, Sami Foguel, said on Wednesday that the government should auction the 5G spectrum as soon as possible and he expects that to happen in about a year's time. Foguel spoke in a call to analysts after TIM announced fourth quarter net revenues rose by 5.2 percent year-on-year to 4.48 billion reais ($1.2 billion).
The fourth quarter was a rough one for most investors, as fears of a rising interest rate environment in the U.S, a trade war with China, and a more or less stagnant Europe, weighed heavily on the minds of investors. Both the S&P 500 and Russell 2000 sank as a result, with the Russell 2000, […]
Tim Participacoes SA fell after its controller announced it removed Amos Genish as CEO after a clash with investor Elliott Management. The news added uncertainty to Tim Participacoes’s potential bid for Nextel Telecomunicacoes Ltda and the stock is leading Ibovespa losses. The board of Telecom Italia has already approved a non-binding offer for Nextel.
BRASILIA/SAO PAULO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Far-right Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro vowed on Tuesday to appoint non-partisan ministers, breaking with the tradition of building cabinets through coalitions, as part of his bid to tackle graft in Latin America's largest economy. With a commanding lead in the first round - he won 46 percent of the vote to Haddad's 29 percent - and a tidal wave of support lifting his congressional allies, Bolsonaro says he has the capital to fundamentally change the political process. "Once we get there, let's build a team of ministers committed to the future of Brazil and not political and partisan interests," Bolsonaro said.
BRASILIA/SAO PAULO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Far-right Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro, pushing to put business leaders in government roles, could invite the head of global markets at Santander Brasil SA to lead the central bank if current governor Ilan Goldfajn declines to stay, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. Roberto Campos Neto, who also runs the trading desk of Santander Brasil, is one of several executives being considered to run ministries and state enterprises, Folha de S.Paulo reported without saying how it obtained the information. Congressman Bolsonaro came just short of the majority vote that would have won him the presidency outright in Sunday's election.
