Tesla Said It Won't Need to Raise Cash, But…

Shares of Tesla (TSLA) has been on a tear to start 2018, despite lackluster fourth-quarter deliveries and growing competition in electric and autonomous cars.  Cowen & Co.'s  Jeffrey Osborne and his team don't think that the good times will last. Osborne writes that Tesla continues to be confident it can solve the production bottlenecks that have plagued production, and he's glad that the company is focused on working out the bugs in the Model 3, as he believes that consumers buying these lower priced vehicles will be less forgiving than wealthier buyers of the Model X, which shrugged off issues with that car. Although Tesla said that it will not need to raise cash this year, he warns that if delays continue, it will have to either issue bonds or dilute shareholder equity.
