Why is CWCO, with such great prospects given the deal in Mexico, going down you ask? Water companies are different from most other stocks, in that their earnings are at little risk. It's very unlikely that their customers are going to find another source of water. At the same time, their prospects for growth are limited (CWCO is the exception. This deal in Mexico alone is likely to grow revenues more than 40% over time). Water companies are owned for their reliable dividend; they are a bond alternative. Investors expect a premium over the yield from treasuries. The stock had been trading until recently at $13.5. It had a yield of 2.22, now up to 2.5% at the current price (and I think at this price in a few years the yield to cost will be over 4%) If we look at TLO, Barclay's long term treasury ETF, the current yeild is 2.23 and the price is at 77.95. It is down from 80, or only about 3%, and the yeild is up from 2.17. All this is about the expectations of a possible 25 basis point rate hike. All of the utility stocks have been punished likewise, but here there is clearly an overreaction. CWCO is a small, thinly traded company and the market has yet to react appropriately in appreciation of the fact that earnings and yield should move up significantly faster than their peers due to this recent project in Rosarito. Admittedly there is considerable opacity in exactly how that is going to be carried out. No question in my mind that the company is a safe buy at this price, and if you bought it little higher just hang on. Ultimately the market will realize it's mistake, especially if (as I expect) the Fed is only jaw boning again and will not and cannot hike rates without tanking the whole world economy. Of course this is just my opinion, do your own research, due diligence, etc. Needless to say I am and have been for years long CWCO.
