Travelers (TRV) misses Q2 earnings estimates but records year-over-year improvement largely attributed to lower level of catastrophe loss and higher net investment income.
Travelers Companies Inc. reported second-quarter earnings that fell short of Wall Street expectations, though revenue topped analysts' estimates. Profit in the latest quarter rose to $557 million, or $2.10 a share, from $524 million, or $1.92 a share, in the year-earlier quarter. Adjusted EPS was $2.02 a share, missing the FactSet consensus of $2.28 a share. Revenue for the second quarter rose to $7.834 billion from $7.477 billion a year ago, topping the FactSet consensus of $7.409 billion. Net written premiums rose 4% to $7.45 billion, also topping the FactSet consensus of $7.41 billion. Shares were down 1.1% in premarket trade. Travelers stock has gained 25% in the year to date through Monday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 16.5%. The S&P 500 has gained 19.1%.
