Ray Davis, whose name was, for a long time, nearly synonymous with Umpqua Bank, will be officially and fully leaving the bank in the next week. In a document filed with the Securities Exchange Commission, Umpqua Bank reported that Davis announced on Dec. 20 that he would retire from his position as the director of Umpqua Bank and its parent company Umpqua Holdings Corporation on Dec. 31, and would no longer be an employee of the bank as of Jan. 2, 2018. “Ray’s unique vision, passion and conviction transformed Umpqua from a small, sleepy community bank into the largest bank headquartered in Oregon – and one of the world’s most iconic and admired financial services companies – while challenging the banking industry to think differently," a statement from the bank said.
