The shorts are still playing in this name; we lost many of them on this board months ago when the stock was only in the teens, but some may be back for more punishment. Any stock with high short interest (say over 10% of the float) will always be volatile on any given day---but even more so with a small cap company. We are seeing a reasonable "floor" in UNFI these days, maybe call it $35. This stock is headed higher and will eventually rise to become a "mid cap stock" when it arrives at a $10 billion market cap based upon it's true metrics. Do the math--there's more money to be made in this position....

Investors are worried about food inflation (higher input costs--ie. raw materials) and are hitting all food stocks today. But UNFI is primarily a distributor; not a food supplier/manufacturer company like Conagra. They should be able to maintain their margins by simply passing on the costs. Stay long, still cheap here...

UNFI-----It has been in the oversold condition in the last few days this week. Need to close @34.50 in order
to bounce back to $35. Great stock to own at this cheap pricing level.

The press release about UNFI replacing 53 diesel refers with electric cooling units is what should be appearing weekly and shouldn't be something "notices". Keep that type of information coming! Simple, easy and honest information that puts the company out front of the investing public and increases awareness. All good.

Look up "UNFI Private Label" and you will see the many brands in UNFI's portfolio. I would think as food prices go up, cost sensitive consumers will buy PL brands, which is a win for UNFI. UNFI picked up some PL lines from Super Value and their Field Day offering for natural retailers is very popular.

Here are the top 5 US food distributors ranked by Market Cap.

It’s absolutely clear that the market values UNFI and SPTN less than SYY, USFD, and PFGC. Given that the P/E (NextYrEst) for both UNFI and SPTN are essentially flat with this year’s P/E, the market seems to be assuming that their profits margins will also be flat. Whereas the P/E (NextYrEst) for the other 3 companies are improving. My money is on UNFI to improve their profit margins, which would improve their P/E as well.

Stock MarCap Rev PrftMar(TTM) P/E (FYest) P/E (NextYrEst)
    SYY $42.5B $46B -0.74% 61 26
    USFD $8.9B $23B -1.11% 27 17
    PFGC $7.6B $27B -0.65% 41 26
    UNFI $2.0B $27B 0.72% 10 10
    SPTN $0.7B $9B 0.81% 11 10

Nice to see support for a few days in the 35-36 range. Interested to see the next short report! I suspect it will be another reduction in shorts - good sign for things to come.

On a separate note - a little hard to clearly break out, but it appears Amazon/Whole foods had some pretty incredible grocery growth - who is Whole Foods primary grocery supplier 🙂?

Barron's reported UPS bleeding past earnings expectations due to continued COVID on-line orders. In the article, they state the share price has increased 44% from $120 to $190. And the beat goes on. Bang the drum. This economy (as long as you are not in commercial real estate) has wings.

hey Doug your babyf finally released results for quarter and year ended 12/31/20. $600,000 in sales for the quarter and $14 million Loss. no wonder they waited so long to release results, they are bragging about 30 percent repeat customer, that does not sound good to me, I had two kids and they went through a lot of formula. Good luck on the stock but I don't like because at 100 x sales and with significant losses they are going to be selling a whole lot more shares.

dac up to $59 5 months ago I recommended on this board at $12. Crazy as it sounds still not too late to get in going to earn at least $14 per share next 2 years. We are in a shipping super cycle which is going to last a while. nmm is also a good buy same dynamics.

UNFI announced Community Marketplace on April 7, 2021. Less than 3 weeks later, suppliers have signed up and there are lots of items for sale. Check UNFI’s website for more info.

At some point, UNFI will announce this early success to drum up more suppliers and buyers.

P&G expects pandemic shopping trends to continue into the near term future. Just one more example of why UNFI will continue to grow revenues. Ride this revenue train. The consumer is flush with cash, revenge travel and spending is just around the corner and UNFI is selling the picks and shovels for all those activities. There's gold in them there isles!

There will be economic disruptions due to Covid. Restaurants need to rehire old and new employees. New growth will occur and the economy will flourish, as long as India and our own Anti-Vaccers don't birth a new vaccine resistant virus. UNFI revenues will continue. Debt will be reduced. It IS a value stock. Bond returns are low. Risks and stock values in other investments are sky high. Down side risk with UNFI appear to be minimal at $33/share. Upside potential is improving daily. This is a volitle stock and frequently gives opportunities to buy on dips and build a position or swing trade. The trading volume is low (under 1M/day frequently). This is a wealth builder.

SYY annual revenue 53 billion & market cap 43 billion
UNFI annual revenue 27 billion & market cap 2 billion.
    Unbelievable.
UNFI earnings per share are also better.

Can someone please explain to me how this short covering works? There is 9 million shares short and they have 7 days to cover. Or am I not correct with that duration. In the last 7 days the total shares traded was approximately 7 million. So what happens to these short positions. They obviously are not being covered.
