Solid earnings as usual. The stock does not shine, but it is a safe haven in true sense of stock investment.

Management indicated clearly enough during earnings call that they have specific plans to expand to "adjacent industry".

Nice dividend raise - seem bullish on leaf pricing. All good ???

As solid a company that exists today. Great dividend yield, little debt, smart management. In businesses that are not high flying but provides solid returns. Stock will fluctuate, but more on dips. Long term as good as it gets.

Solid results, great dividend. However, they better do something tangible in expansion to "similar business".

    fruits?
Tobacco merchant Universal Corp. UVV, -1.65% said late Wednesday it has agreed to buy fruit and vegetable processor and supplier FruitSmart, aiming for a "new growth opportunity." FruitSmart "is well-positioned to capitalize on recent shifts in market dynamics and consumer behavior including a secular shift towards health and wellness," Universal said in a statement. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed but Universal said it expected to fund the acquisition with a combination of cash and debt. The deal is expected to close in the current fiscal year and add to the company's bottom line in the first fiscal year after closing, the company said. Shares of Universal were flat in the extended session Wednesday after ending the regular trading day down 1.7%.

Tobacco stock with low debt and over 7% dividend? Allright, the earnings dropped somehow, but that did fluctuate in the past, too. I'm long.
    Bullish

This is the low price range entry point, and don't expect it drop much further...The chart says it all.

UVV is down from over 60 in late May. I took the opportunity to convert some of my shares from my Rollover IRA to my Roth at $49.93 on Thursday. I pay lower tax on the lower price and get the 6% dividend tax free hereafter. With a lot of tax free Roth income already, I will try to stay in the 12% Federal bracket. The dividend will pay the Federal tax in two years and any capital appreciation will be tax free. I believe this is a good strategy with solid companies. You can also trade within your Roth tax free if something gets a little frothy and a different buying opportunity comes up.

Solid earnings as usual. Great dividend and safe business model. Also, new food business shows some movement in positive direction. In total, this is a well-managed company.

Tight leaf market and better pricing caught the market by surprise. Lots of promises going forward about vertical market opportunities etc.

Does anyone know why this is going so high? Is it time to take profits?

Solid company that's been around for over 100 years, and raised dividend over 36%...Unheard of!

Solid earnings as usual. Some bumps in new businesses should be sorted out.

Note about "adjacent" markets. Are they going to start growing pot?

Philip Morris International had a great quarter, which a significant increase in EPS and an increase in sale volume of their heat-not-burn product IQOS. PM is the biggest tobacco company ex-US.

This is extremely bullish for UVV, as it seems that heat-not-burn tobacco may be the future and not necessarily vaping. That means tobacco growing stays relevant.

I don't necessarily expect this stock to go up high, but I do expect moderate growth over the long-term as markets increase, plus the great dividend, which is the most important factor. A great buy and hold IMO. I added slightly to my position last week.
    Bullish

Just a question of whether you buy UVV or AOI - the major players

High market valuation so all about the dividend here - slight rise in rates and stock is under some pressure.
