    VGR posted $0.20 per share earnings ($0.25 including one-time items), which is better than expected. It will be interesting to hear how the FDA's edict will affect VGR's future earnings, since they usually issue earnings guidance going forward.

    My take on this earnings report is that the cash dividend + 5% stock will be paid ~September 15th, as usual.

    EPS = .37/share and dividend = $1.6/share. 1.6/.37 = 4.32 or 432% payout.

    Any thoughts on why this stock is so volatile? It's not oil or gold. Also, the bounce off the 200 day doesn't bothe anyone?

    This action by the FDA will make the health problem they state worse for people already addicted to cigarettes. Think about it, if you lower nicotine levels, people will just smoke more cigarettes more often. The lung cancer is caused by the combustion of plant material, the 'tar' etc. the nicotine does have addictive qualities, and other health effects, but this is typically not what kills you.

    Tomorrow morning (August 4) - Q2 Earnings. VGR is already low due to FDA, but dropping even further today before earnings, and BTI, MO & PM are all on the upswing. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Ever wonder why most articles that discuss the VGR dividend (The Street - July 11) talk about dividends equaling 7.6%, when a 5% stock dividend has consistently been doles out every year as well? Is it some reporting rule? Is it a matter of someone taking a 2 second look at the stock and dividing the dividend by today's selling price??? Also, just out of curiosity, how many of you would rather have VGR with a higher stock value and lower dividends (using the cash to pay off debt or invest) or like it just the way it is?

    Next dividend is both cash and stock.
