I bought some more today. Once this all blows over it'll go to $10s even $11s again. May take a year but we'll be back there for sure. And you get a nice dividend while waiting. Better than keeping the money in Valley bank with zero interest rate on savings!

Can anyone explain this to me? Valley National Bancorp (VLY) (“Valley”) announced today that it priced $115 million of its 5.25% Fixed-to-Floating Rate Notes due 2030 (the “Notes”).

I was nervous about banks with the recession impact unfolding. But looks like the FED will by any distress loan, bond, credit facility that is needed. Banks will surely do well in a game where where the keep winners and pass along losers to a buyer with unlimited resources.

I have a question about Valley’s 5.5% preferred stock (VLYPO) dividend. I read where the coupon rate for VLYPO will fall to 3.578% plus the 3 month libor rate beginning September 30, 2022. If the libor rate is unchanged the new coupon will be just 3.608%. The new dividend rate could cause the price of the preferred stock to drop by a lot. Do you agree with my analysis? I welcome your comments.
